Shoremen Trap Bears, 6-3

Shoremen Now One Win from Clinching Centennial Tournament Berth

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The host Washington College men's tennis team moved closer to a spot in the five-team Centennial Conference Tournament with a 6-3 conference win over visiting Ursinus this afternoon at Schottland Tennis Center. The Shoremen, ranked 20th in the Atlantic South region, improved to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in conference matches with the win, while the Bears dropped to 12-6 and 4-4.

Doubles
- The Bears secured the first point of the match thanks to an 8-1 win at No. 1 by Max Oberholtzer and Paul Vecchio against Chris Salisbury and Jake Sandler.
- Washington won the other two doubles matches for a 2-1 lead as Zack Novick and Justin Panepinto were 8-2 winners over Henry Burke and Connor DeFaber-Schumacher at No . 3 and Jeremy Novick and Luke Weaver downed Chanton Phan and Peter Shields, 8-0, at No. 2.

Singles
- Ursinus tied the score with a 6-1, 6-1, win by Phan against Weaver at No. 3.
- The Shoremen took a 4-2 lead thanks to a 6-0, 6-2, Zack Novick win against Burke at No. 4 and a 6-2, 6-1, victory for August Meriot over Jordan Hodess at No. 6.
- Salisbury clinched the victory for the Shoremen when he rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-3, win against Oberholtzer at No. 1.
- Shields picked up a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, win against Jeremy Novick at No. 5 for Ursinus. Sandler accounted for the Shoremen's final point with a 6-1, 7-6(2), win against Vecchio at No. 2.
