Fords End Shorewomen's Season with 5-1 Win in Centennial Tournament's First-Round Match

Lazer & Martinez Win at No. 1 Doubles for Shorewomen

HAVERFORD, Pa. — Host Haverford College advanced to the Centennial Conference Semifinals with a 5-1 win over visiting Washington College in the five-team conference tournament's first-round match this afternoon. The Fords, who improved to 10-7 with the win, move on to face top-seeded Johns Hopkins in a Saturday semifinal. The Shorewomen finish their season at 10-8.

Doubles
- The Fords won the first two doubles matches to finish by wide margins. Jessica Liu and Clara Farrehi beat Kiran Pant and Mariah Thomas, 8-2, at No. 3, while Jane Bary and Emily Shutman blanked Krista Filiopoulos and MP Hubert, 8-0, at No. 2.
- The Shorewomen picked up a point at No. 1 as Julie Lazer and Rachel Martinez won the final four games of an 8-5 victory against Greta Koch and Abby Payson.

Singles
- Bary extended the Haverford lead to 3-1 with her 6-4, 6-2, victory against Hubert at No. 4.
- A 6-4, 7-5, win by Koch over Martinez at No. 2 stretched the Fords' advantage to 4-1, bringing them to within a point of winning the match.
- Rory Lewis sealed the victory for the Fords with her 6-1, 6-0, win against Pant at No. 5.
- Per Centennial Conference Tournament rules, the match was then stopped. Lazer and Shutman had split the first two sets at No. 1, as had Filiopoulos and Payson at No. 3. Liu had a first-set lead against Thomas when the match was stopped.

- Haverford came into the match ranked 13th in the Atlantic South Region; Washington is ranked 15th.
