Box Score Four Shoremen Score In Second Half As Strine Grabs Goal And Assist
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Host Washington College broke a scoreless tie late in the second half with three goals in a span of 2:37 to post a 4-0 victory over visiting Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference men's soccer game played tonight on Kibler Field at Roy Kirby, Jr. Stadium. Shoremen Head Coach Roy Dunshee picked up his 50th career win, becoming the third coach to record 50 or more wins in the 73 year history of the Washington College men's soccer program.

How It Happened
- Del Jenkins had the best chance of the opening half for either team, as his shot in the 37th minute beat the Swarthmore goalkeeper but was cleared off of the goal line by Ben Lau.
- Swarthmore held an 8-7 advantage in shots at the halftime break and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
- Yuheng Wang took the fourth and final shot on goal of the night for the Garnet with 34:22 to play, but it was stopped by Shoremen goalkeeper Josh Samuels.
- Washington took a 1-0 lead with 16:15 to go when Eric Gwadz eluded multiple Swarthmore defenders, dribbled to the top of the 18 yard box, and put a shot into the left side of the goal.
- The Shoremen doubled the lead just 56 seconds later, as Jenkins finished off a double assist from Liam Mansfield and James Strine. Strine took a free kick from near midfield, which glanced off the head of Mansfield, and onto the foot of Jenkins, who scored from six yards out.
- The lead grew to 3-0 with 13:38 to go when Strine dribbled past a couple defenders down the right hand side and scored from 12 yards out on the far edge of the box.
- Greg Adams rounded out the scoring with 1:20 to play, stealing a clearance attempt from a Garnet defender and scoring into the lower left corner.
For the Shoremen (5-6-3 Overall, 2-3-2 Centennial Conference)
- Scorers: Strine (one goal, one assist), Gwadz (first career goal), Jenkins (goal), Adams (goal), Mansfield (assist).
- Goalkeeper: Samuels (four saves, zero goals allowed, 90:00).
- The Shoremen held an 18-14 advantage in shots in the win, including 7-4 in shots on goal.
For Swarthmore (8-6-1 Overall, 3-3-1 Centennial Conference)
- Scorers: None.
- Goalkeeper: Oliver Steinglass (two saves, three goals allowed, 76:22), Ian Withy-Berry (zero saves, one goal allowed, 13:38).
- The Garnet held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks in the loss.
Notes
- Strine was named the Goose Nation TV Shoremen Player Of The Game on the webcast of the game for the third time in his career. Tonight marks the first time in his career in which he has produced both a goal and an assist in a game.
- The four goal margin of victory tonight was the largest for the Shoremen over the Garnet since posting a 5-1 win back in 2001.
- Washington has now beaten Swarthmore in three consecutive years, the first three game win streak for the Shoremen over the Garnet since winning eight straight meetings from 1995-2002.
- The Shoremen are now 5-1-2 at home this season, compared to just 0-5-1 on the road.
- Dunshee becomes the third coach in Shoremen history with 50 career wins, along with Edward L. Athey (216 wins) and Lin Outten (65 wins).
