Shorewomen Take Both From Red Devils For First Centennial Sweep of Season

Butler Tallies Game-Winning Hit In Game One and Bennett Notches Contest Deciding Hit In Game Two

CARLISLE, Pa. – Visiting Washington College swept its first Centennial Conference softball doubleheader of the season over host Dickinson on Saturday afternoon at Dickinson Park.  The Shorewomen rallied from 2-1 down to win game one, 5-2, and earned a 3-2 victory in game two, breaking a 2-2 tie with a run in the top of the sixth inning.  The Shorewomen (11-17 overall and 3-5 Centennial) have won 14 of the past 16 meetings against the Red Devils (13-13 overall and 2-6 conference) dating back to 2011.

Washington College 5 Dickinson 2 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- Dickinson would score a pair of one out runs in the bottom of the third inning on two wild pitches to take a 2-0 lead as Brigette Gutpulet and Kat Parise scored respectively.
- The Shorewomen trimmed the lead to 2-1 in the top half of the fourth when Maddie Bennett singled in Elaina DiPrimio on a two-out RBI base hit to right field. 
- In the top of the sixth with two outs, Washington would score four times to take the lead at 5-2.  Rachel Butler hit what proved to be the game-winning hit as she socked a bases clearing double to center to plate Taylor Harcum, Brittany Walker and Kerrigan Buck to give the Shorewomen a 4-2 advantage.  Butler would make it 5-2 when she scored on a single to right by Grace Moery to provide the final margin.
- Washington would not allow Dickinson to get the tying run to the plate in either of the last two frames.

For The Shorewomen (10-17, 2-5 CC)
- Hitting: Butler (2-for-3, three RBI), DiPrimio (1-for-2, walk)
- Pitching: Taylor Harcum (win 5-10, 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, three hits, two walks, three strikeouts)
- WC had six hits, drew one walk and had a player reach via hit by pitch, while leaving three on base.
- The Shorewomen had one error, but did not lead to an earned run by Dickinson.

For Dickinson (13-12, 2-5 CC)
- Hitting: Gutpulet (2-for-4, run), Jessica Epstein (2-for-4)
- Pitching: Madison Milaszewski (loss 6-3, complete game, six hits, five runs, five earned, one walk, 12 strikeouts)
- The Red Devils had six hits, worked out four walks and had one get on due a hit by pitch, while stranding 11 runners on base.
-Dickinson committed one error in the field, leading to zero unearned runs for the Shorewomen.

Notes
- Washington five runs was its most runs in a Centennial game this season.

Washington College 3 Dickinson 2 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- Washington scored twice in the top of the first to grab a quick 2-0 lead.  DiPrimio knocked in Allyson Meil on an RBI groundout to make it 1-0 with nobody out and with one away, Bennett singled to left field to chase in Moery for the second run.
- Dickinson would even the game at 2-2 in the last of the fifth on a Parise single to right that scored both Kat Vill and Gutpulet on a two-out single to right. 
- In the top of the sixth, the Shorewomen regained the lead on one-out double by Bennett to left-center that scored pinch-runner Leah Stokes as she ran for DiPrimio who got on via a two-bagger to center.
- Dickinson got runners on second base and third base in the last of the sixth with two outs, but Bennett got Vill to hit a grounder to Kerrigan Buck for the final out and preserve the lead.
- In the last of the seventh, Harcum retired the Red Devils in order to complete the sweep and register the save.

For The Shorewomen (11-17, 3-5 CC)
- Hitting: Bennett (2-for-3, two RBI, double)
- Pitching: Butler (win 5-6, five innings, six hits, two runs, two earned, one walk, five strikeouts), Harcum (save 1, one inning, zero hits, runs and walks, one strikeout) 
- Washington had six hits and drew zero walks, while leaving three stranded on the basepaths.
- The one error the Shorewomen committed did not lead to a Dickinson run.

For Dickinson (13-13, 2-6 CC)
- Hitting: Piet (2-for-3, two RBI)
- Pitching: Killian Kueny (loss 6-5, complete game, six hits, three runs, three earned, zero walks, three strikeouts)
- The Red Devils had six hits and worked out two walks, while leaving seven runners on base.
- Dickinson had one error, but did not lead to an earned run.

Notes
- The Shorewomen are 16-4 against the Red Devils under head coach Lacey Lister as Washington has not been swept by Dickinson since 2008, the year before Lister's arrival.
