Fords Rally To Complete Sweep of Shorewomen

Haverford Scores Four Times in Last of the Seventh to Spoil No-Hit Bid by Harcum and Overcome 3-0 Deficit

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Host Haverford scored four times in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two to overcome a 3-0 deficit and a no-hit bid by visiting Washington College pitcher Taylor Harcum (Hebron, Md./Mardela) to post a 4-3 victory and complete the sweep in a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Class of '95 Field.  The Fords won game one 4-1.  The Fords are now 17-7 on the year and 7-3 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen are 12-20 and 4-8 respectively. 

Haverford 4 Washington College 1 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- The Fords took a 2-0 lead after one inning as Jessica Koshinski homered down the left field line with two outs to also score Nicole Swisher in the bottom half of the frame.
- Each team scored a run in the third inning.  In the top half, Harcum doubled to right with two outs to score Allyson Meil to trim the lead to 2-1 and in the bottom half of the frame, Ashley Sisto came home on a fielding error with one away to make it 3-1. 
- In the bottom of the fourth, Emma Souter singled to left with two outs to drive in Swisher to give the hosts a three-run lead.
- In their last three trips to the plate, the Shorewomen did not get the tying run to the plate.

For The Shorewomen (12-19, 4-7 CC)
- Hitting: Harcum (2-for-3, RBI double), Rachel Butler (2-for-3)
- Pitching: Maddie Bennett (loss 2-2, five hits, four runs, three earned, four walks, six strikeouts)
- WC had six hits and drew zero walks, while leaving five on base.
- The Shorewomen had three errors that led to one unearned run for Haverford.

For Haverford (16-7, 6-3 CC)
- Hitting: Koshinski (two-run home run), Swisher (1-for-2, two runs, walk), Sisto (two walks, run)
- Pitching: Temma Levis (win 8-3, complete game, six hits, one run, one earned, zero walks, eight strikeouts)
- The Fords had five hits, worked out four walks and had one get on due a hit by pitch, while stranding eight runners on base.
- Haverford committed zero errors in the field.

Haverford 4 Washington College 3 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- Washington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second as Butler socked a one-out home run to center.
- In the top of the third, the Shorewomen took advantage of an error to push their lead to 2-0 as Meil's sacrifice fly to right scored Leah Stokes
- Harcum would have a perfect game through two outs in the bottom of the sixth before the first batter of the game for the Fords, Alex Craig, would reach on a passed ball after a strikeout.  Harcum would keep the no-hitter going as she Julia Blake to ground out two hitters later following an error on a fielder's choice and a walk.
- Harcum would help her own cause in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI single to right to plate Grace Moery.
- Koshinski led off the bottom of the seventh with a single that landed between the pitcher's circle and second for Haverford's first hit.  With one out, Koshinski would score on a throwing error to trim the lead to 3-1.  The next hitter, Johanna Batterton, singled up the middle to plate both Souter and Rachel Wolfson to even the game at 3-3.  After a strikeout for the second out and a walk, Sisto won the game for the Fords as she singled on a pop up between the circle and second to score Batterton.

For The Shorewomen (12-20, 4-8 CC)
- Hitting: Butler (1-for-3, home run), Harcum (1-for-3, RBI), Stokes (2-for-3, run)
- Pitching: Harcum (loss 5-12, complete game, four hits, four runs, four earned, three walks, seven strikeouts) 
- Washington had five hits, drew one walk and had a runner reach on a hit by pitch, while leaving five stranded on the basepaths.
- The Shorewomen had two errors in the game.

For Haverford (17-7, 7-3 CC)
- Hitting: Batterton (1-for-3, two RBI)
- Pitching: Batterton (win 5-0, 4 2/3 innings, three hits, one run, one earned, one walk, zero strikeouts) Briana Quinn (2 1/3 innings, two hits, two runs, one earned, zero walks, zero strikeouts)
- The Fords had four hits and worked out three walks, while leaving three runners on base.
- Haverford had one error, leading to one unearned run for Washington.

Notes
- Stokes was the only player in the game to tally multiple hits as she had two.
