Lewis Scores Career-High 24 Points for Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College got a career-high 24 points from junior Alec Lewis (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) and outscored visiting Gettysburg, 49-34, in the second half to come away with a 76-61 win on Thursday night in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game at the Cain Athletic Center.  The Shoremen are 7-7 overall and 3-4 in the Centennial, while the Bullets fall to 3-11 and 2-5 respectively.  WC has now won three straight conference games for the first time since winning five in a row in January 2012.

How It Happened
- Gettysburg jumped out to a 14-9 lead with 13:03 left in the first half on a three-pointer by Alec Warren. 
- Washington would answer with a 9-0 run to grab an 18-14 lead with 7:29 remaining on a triple by Tray Wright.
- The Bullets would outscore the Shoremen by a 13-9 margin in the rest of the half to send the game to a 27-27 tie at halftime.
- Avery Close would give Gettysburg a 37-36 lead on a layup with 15:58 left before Washington would take control of the game on a 14-0 run to lead 50-37 with 10:41 left on a three-pointer by Josh Porteous.  The Shoremen would take the lead for good on a fast-break layup by Porteous with 14:22 remaining in the game that started the run at 38-37. 
- The closest the Bullets would come the rest of the way was eight points, which they did on two occasions, the final being on a Close lay-in with 7:57 left to trim the Shoremen lead to 52-44.
- WC outscored Gettysburg 24-17 the rest of the way to provide the final margin.

For The Shoremen (7-7, 3-4 CC)
- Lewis (career-highs of 24 points and five assists; six rebounds), Marshall (10 points and three steals), Porteous (14 points), Wright (eight rebounds to lead all players)
- The Shoremen shot 47% (28-for-60) from the floor, 38% (9-for-24) from three-point range and 73% (11-for-15) from the foul line. 
- Washington outscored the Bullets in points off of turnovers (20-14) and bench points (23-16).
- The Shoremen had just 10 turnovers and held a 37-30 advantage on the glass.

For Gettysburg (3-11, 2-4 CC)
- Close (game-best 27 points), Nick Antolini (seven boards and three steals), Danny Duffey (four assists)
- The Bullets shot 41% (24-for-59) from the floor, 26% (6-for-23) from three-point range and 78% (7-for-9) from the free throw stripe.    
- Gettysburg outscored Washington 36-26 in points in the paint and 15-13 in second chance points.
- The Bullets had 12 turnovers in the contest.

Notes
- Lewis was named the Chestertown McDonald's Shoremen Player of the Game on the Goose Nation TV webcast of the game.  
- Lewis' 24 points were the most by a Washington player since James Drury '17 scored 26 points at Johns Hopkins on January 27, 2016.
- In January 2012, Washington's five straight wins came against Franklin & Marshall, Johns Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Ursinus and McDaniel respectively.  All but Muhlenberg came on the road.
