Box Score Carter Leads Shoremen With Career High 15 Points
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Host Washington College shot 50% from three point range and used a 9-0 run late in the game to take the lead for good and hold on for a 66-61 win over visiting Franklin & Marshall in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game played today at Cain Athletic Center in Chestertown, Maryland.

How It Happened
- The Diplomats led 13-9 with 12:37 left in the half following a layup from Brian Hines before the Shoremen went on a 21-6 run to take a 30-19 lead with 5:19 left in the half on a three pointer from Derrick Carter. All 21 points scored by Washington during the run were off of three point shots.
- F&M closed the half on a 9-2 run, capped on a layup by Hines with 1:32 to go to cut the lead to 32-28 at the half.
- A free throw from Matt Redhead with 18:06 to go tied the game at 34-34, but Alec Lewis and Dallas Marshall knocked down three pointers on consecutive possessions to put Washington back ahead 40-34 with 17:25 to go.
- A four point play from Carter would give the Shoremen a 47-40 lead with 14:34 left, but the Diplomats answered with a 9-1 run to take a 49-48 lead with 9:15 to play on a jumper from Solomon Mathis.
- Both teams traded the lead for the next three minutes, and a layup from Hines gave F&M a 55-54 lead with 6:18 left. Washington then went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good, as Austin Allen capped the run on a free throw with 37 seconds to go to set the score at 63-55. Allen started the run with a layup to put the Shoremen ahead for good at 56-55 with 5:04 left.
- The Diplomats would not go away quietly, however, as they scored the next four points to trim the lead to 63-59 with 16 seconds to go following a layup from Redhead. Carter was fouled on the next possession, however, and made both free throws to make it a six point game at 65-59 with 12 seconds left. Hines made a layup with four seconds left to cut the lead to 65-61, but Lewis was fouled on the inbounds play and made one free throw to set the final score at 66-61.
For the Shoremen (3-6 Overall, 1-2 Centennial Conference)
- Carter (career high 15 points, two steals), Lewis (13 points), Daniel Brown (12 points, game high two blocks), Marshall (game high four steals), Allen (game bests of 10 rebounds and six assists).
- The Shoremen shot 41.5% (22-for-53) from the floor in the win, 50% (11-for-22) from three point range, and 61.1% (11-for-18) at the free throw line.
- Washington forced 17 turnovers from Franklin & Marshall, which they turned into 23 points, and held a 33-30 advantage in rebounding.
For Franklin & Marshall (2-5 Overall, 0-3 Centennial Conference)
- Redhead (15 points), Hines (12 points, seven rebounds), Justin Kupa (11 points, four assists, three steals), Ignas Slyka (10 points, five assists).
- The Diplomats shot 45.8% (22-for-48) from the floor in the loss, 20% (3-for-15) from three point range, and 73.7% (14-for-19) at the free throw line.
Notes
- Carter was named the Goose Nation TV Shoremen Player Of The Game for the first time in his career.
- Washington has now won four straight games against the Diplomats for the first time in program history.
