Stokes Runs Streak Of Multiple Hit Games To Five

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Washington College softball team got a two run double from Rachel DiMarcello (Middletown, Del. / St. Georges Tech) and Leah Stokes (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) against Beloit to help the Shorewomen win one of two games played today on Field C at the DiamondPlex Facility at THE Spring Games in Winter Haven, Florida. Washington dropped the opening game of the day against Eastern Connecticut State 8-1 before rebounding to defeat Beloit 7-1 in their second game of the day.

How It Happened
- The Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the first when Julia SanGiovanni singled to left field, bringing home Alexis Tyrrell for a 1-0 lead.
- Eastern Connecticut got runners on second and third in the bottom of the second inning, but would not score.
- Washington tied the game in the top of the third when DiMarcello singled to center field, bringing home Alyssa Vieira. 
- The Shorewomen put runners on second and third with one away in the top of the fourth, but would not score.
- The Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Megan Hodgdon beat out a potential double play ground ball to short with one out, with Sabrina LeMere, who was on third by way of a throwing error, scoring from third on the play.
- Eastern Connecticut took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth when Tyrrell scored from second base on a fielding error.
- The Warriors put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Morgan Bolduk drove home Grace Leone on a single to left, Tyrrell followed with a bunt single and advance to second on the play when nobody covered the bag, scoring Calli Duthrie from third. Bolduk then scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-1.
- Sara Pisanelli picked up an RBI on a groundout to second base which scored Tyrrell, and Brooke Matyasovsky capped the scoring with a double to left center field, scoring SanGiovanni. 

For the Shorewomen (2-8)
- Hitting: Megan Robbins (2-for-3, two doubles), Stokes (2-for-4), DiMarcello (hit, RBI), Vieira (hit, run), Maddie Bennett (three walks).
- Pitching: Bennett (loss, 1-4, 5.1 innings, eight hits, five runs, three earned, four walks, three strikeouts), Rachel Butler (2/3 inning, three hits, three runs, zero walks, zero strikeouts).
- The Shorewomen had seven hits in the loss, drew three walks, and left nine runners on base.
- Washington committed three errors, leading to two unearned runs for the Warriors.

For Eastern Connecticut State (4-1)
- Hitting: Tyrrell (3-for-3, RBI, walk, three runs, two stolen bases), SanGiovanni (hit, RBI, walk, run), Hodgdon (hit, RBI, stolen base), Bolduk (hit, RBI, run), LeMere (hit, run), Jackie Lewis (2-for-2), Matyasovsky (double, RBI), Pisanelli (RBI), Duthrie (walk, run), Leone (run, stolen base)
- Pitching: Bolduk (win, 3-0, seven innings, seven hits, one run, three walks, eight strikeouts).
- The Warriors had 11 hits in the win, drew four walks, and left seven runners on base.
- Eastern Connecticut State played a clean game defensively, committing zero errors.

Notes
- Robbins was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player Of The Game on the webcast of the game for the first time in her career. 

Washington College 7, Beloit 1

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen got on the board in the bottom of the second inning on a sacrifice fly to left field from Alli Saul, which scored Butler.
- The Buccaneers tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth when Ashley Lambert singled to center field, scoring Madi Christine.
- Washington took advantage of a fielding error to plate four unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Shorewomen grabbed a 2-1 lead when Grace Moery singled to center field, bringing home Brittany Walker. Caroline Braungard then extended the lead to 3-1 with a single to left field which scored Moery. DiMarcello then sent a ball to the fence in right field for a double, scoring Braungard and Vieira to put the Shorewomen ahead 5-1.
- A two out double into the left field corner from Stokes brought home Cristen Quillen and Moery and put the Shorewomen ahead 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth and capped the scoring.  

For the Shorewomen (3-8)
- Hitting: Stokes (2-for-4, double, two RBI's), Moery (2-for-3, RBI, two runs), DiMarcello (double, two RBI's), Vieira (2-for-3, run), Braungard (hit, RBI, run), Butler (two walks, run), Saul (RBI), Walker (run), Quillen (run)
- Pitching: Butler (win, 2-4, seven innings, five hits, one run, two walks, six strikeouts).
- The Shorewomen had eight hits in the win, drew three walks, and left three runners on base.
- Washington committed one error, but it did not lead to a Buccaneers run.

For Beloit (2-7)
- Hitting: Lambert (hit, RBI), Christine (hit, run, stolen base), Maty Nowakowski (hit, walk), Alyssa Boltik (walk, stolen base)
- Pitching: Boltik (loss, 2-4, 4.2 innings, six hits, five runs, one earned run, two walks, one strikeout), Maddy Pfortmiller (1.1 innings, two hits, two runs, one walk, two strikeouts).
- The Buccaneers had five hits in the win, drew two walks, and left seven runners on base.
- Beloit committed two errors, leading to four unearned Shorewomen runs.

Notes
- Butler was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player Of The Game on the webcast of the game for the fifth time in her career.
- Stokes now has five consecutive games in which she has picked up two or more hits.
- Vieira also has a five game hit streak after today.
- DiMarcello is one of only four players in the Centennial Conference to have double digits in RBI's at this point of the season.
