Fords Complete Sweep of Shorewomen After Resuming Second Game

Haverford Wins 10-2 in Game One and Game Two is Stopped After Five Innings Due To Darkness Tied 4-4

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Host Haverford came away with a 10-2 win in game one of a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader against Washington College in six innings due to the eight-run rule on Tuesday afternoon at Class of '95 Field.  In game two, the two teams were tied 4-4 after five innings that was called due to darkness.  The two teams resumed play on Wednesday, April 24 with the Fords completing the sweep in eight innings, 5-4.  The Fords are now 23-10-1 on the year and 10-3-1 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen are 10-26-1 and 3-9-1 respectively. 

Haverford 10 Washington College 2 (Game 1 – Six Innings)

How It Happened
- In the bottom of the first inning, Haverford took a 2-0 just two hitters into the game as Nicole Swisher socked a two-run home run to right field to also plate Julia Blake.  Following a Rachel Wolfson triple, she came home on a base hit to right field off the bat of Marybeth Stone to cap the three-run frame.
- With one away in the bottom of the second, the Fords pushed their lead to 5-0 on a Blake long ball over the fence in centerfield to also score Maya Casey
- The Fords extended their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the third, Emma Souter stole home as part of a double steal with two away.
- Washington got onto the board in the top of the fifth when Leah Stokes singled down the left field line to drive in Julia Hallman to trim the deficit to 6-1.  The Shorewomen loaded the bases with two away, but Fords' pitcher Temma Levis got Megan Robbins to fly out to right field to end the threat.
- Cassidy Predale hit a sacrifice fly to right in the top half of the sixth to drive in Grace Moery with one away and Haverford's lead was down to four at 6-2.
- Haverford scored four times in the last of the sixth to invoke the eight-run rule.  With one away, Levis helped her own cause with a two-run single down the left field line to drive in both Wolfson and Sauter to make it 8-2.  With two outs, Genevieve Dallmyer-Drennen came home on a single to left off the bat of Maya Casey and the Fords' lead was seven.  Two hitters later and with the bases loaded, Swisher worked out a walk to force in Emily Reinstadtler to end the contest.

For The Shorewomen (8-16, 1-2 CC)
- Hitting: Stokes (hit, RBI), Predale (RBI)
- Pitching: Maddie Bennett (loss 5-8, 3 2/3 innings, seven hits, six runs, six earned, four walks, two strikeouts)
- WC had four hits and drew five walks, while leaving eight on base.
- The Shorewomen had zero errors in the opener.

For Haverford (12-7, 2-1 CC)
- Hitting: Casey (3-for-3, run, RBI), Blake (2-for-4, two runs, two RBI), Swisher (1-for-3, home run, three RBI), Wolfson (2-for-4, two runs), Souter (2-for-3, two runs), Levis (1-for-2, two RBI, walk)
- Pitching: Levis (win 8-3, five innings, four hits, one run, one earned, three walks, six strikeouts)
- The Fords had 12 hits, worked out six walks and had three get on due a hit by pitch, while stranding eight runners on base.
- Haverford committed two errors in the field, but did not lead to a Washington run.

Haverford 5 Washington College 4 (Game 2 – Eight Innings with Final Three Innings Played on April 24)

- The two teams resumed 22 days later on April 24 at Haverford with the top of the sixth inning.  The Fords would get a runner to second base in the bottom of the sixth with two outs, but failed to score.
- In the top of the seventh, their Shorewomen got their lone runner on base with a two-out base hit by Brittany Walker through the right side with two away, but would be stranded there.
- Emma Souter won the game for the Fords as she led off the last of the eighth with a solo home run to left field to give Haverford the walk-off.
- During the April 2 portion of the contest, Washington took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Alyssa Vieira scored on a two-out fielding error by Haverford.
- In the last of the first, the Fords scored three times with the aid of two errors by the Shorewomen to lead 3-1.  Swisher scored on a single through the left side by Souter with one out to tie the game.  With two away, Stone and Souter scored on a fielding miscue by WC to lead 3-1 after one. 
- Washington got an unearned run into the top of the second when Hallman scored on a one out groundout to shortstop off the bat of Alli Saul to cut it to 3-2.
- Blake scored on a one out groundout to second by Casey to give the Fords a 4-2 advantage in the last of the second.
- In the top of the third, Washington got it back to 4-3 as they loaded the bases after the first two were retired and Rachel DiMarcello scored on a wild pitch.
- The Shorewomen tied it in the fifth on a base hit to right with one away by Walker to chase in Vieira.  WC did load the bases with two outs, but a groundout ended the inning.
- Haverford got a runner on second with two away in the last of the fifth, but a groundout ended the frame and the game was called due to darkness.

For The Shorewomen (10-26-1, 3-10-1 CC)
- Hitting: Vieira (2-for-4, two runs), Walker (3-for-4, RBI)
- Pitching: Rachel Butler (loss 4-13, complete game, four hits, five runs, one earned, one walk, three strikeouts) 
- Washington had nine hits and drew one walk, while leaving eight stranded on the basepaths.
- The Shorewomen had three errors in the game, leading to four Haverford runs.

For Haverford (23-10-1, 10-3-1 CC)
- Hitting: Souter (3-for-3, two runs, two RBI, home run)
- Pitching: Johanna Batterton (four-plus innings, seven hits, four runs, one earned, zero walks, one strikeout) Briana Quinn (one inning, one hit, zero runs, one walk, zero strikeouts), Levis (win 14-2, three scoreless innings, one hit, zero walks, five strikeouts)
- The Fords had four hits, had three get on via hit by pitch and worked out one walk, while leaving six runners on base.
- Haverford had two errors, leading to three unearned runs for Washington.

Notes
- Just two runs in the game were earned.
