Butler Goes The Distance In Game Two

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — Visiting Dickinson swept a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader from host Washington College with a pair of shutout wins today at the Washington College Softball Field in Chestertown, Maryland. The Red Devils won the first game 6-0 before completing the sweep with a 2-0 win in the second game.

Dickinson 6, Washington College 0 (Game One)

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the first, but would not score.
- The Red Devils took the lead in the top off the second when Hannah Seburn grounded out to short, scoring Kristen Acocella.
- Washington again put runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the second on consecutive singles from Rachel Butler and Chrissy Segrest, but did not score. 
- Dickinson tacked on two more runs in the top of the third to take a 3-0 lead. A single to left center from Julie Siecinski scored Brigitte Gutpelet, and a single up the middle from Acocella chased home Siecinski, who beat a strong throw to the plate from Shorewomen center fielder Grace Moery by avoiding the tag from the catcher Segrest.
- A triple from Gutpelet to left field in the top of the fourth scored Marissa Fabbo to push the lead to 4-0, and Gutpelet would score on a single up the middle from the next batter, Kat Parise, to give the Red Devils a 5-0 lead.
- Gutpelet hit a sacrifice fly to center in the top of the sixth and reached when the ball was dropped, with Seburn scoring on the play to give Dickinson a 6-0 lead and cap the scoring.  

For the Shorewomen (8-17-1 Overall, 1-3-1 Centennial Conference)
- Hitting: Butler (hit), Segrest (hit), Leah Stokes (hit).
- Pitching: Maddie Bennett (loss, 5-9, seven innings, eight hits, six runs, five earned, one walk, three strikeouts).
- The Shorewomen had just three hits in the loss, did not draw a walk, and left four runners on base.
- Washington committed two errors, leading to one unearned run for the Red Devils.

For Dickinson (12-11 Overall, 5-0 Centennial Conference)
- Hitting: Siecinski (2-for-4, double, RBI, run), Acocella (2-for-4, RBI, run), Gutpelet (triple, two RBI, two runs, walk, stolen base), Parise (hit, RBI), Fabbo (hit, run), Seburn (RBI, run).
- Pitching: Madison Milaszewski (win, 6-3, seven innings, three hits, zero runs, zero walks, seven strikeouts).
- The Red Devils had eight hits in the win, drew one walk, and left six runners on base.
- Dickinson committed one error, but it did not lead to any unearned runs for the Shorewomen.

Notes
- Stokes was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player Of The Game on the webcast of the game for the third time in her career.
- After the back-to-back singles from Butler and Segrest in the second inning, Milaszewski retired the final 17 Shorewomen batters.

Dickinson 2, Washington College 0 (Game Two)

How It Happened
- Dickinson got both of their runs in the top of the first inning. Maggie McConney struck out swinging, but the ball got away on a wild pitch, allowing her to reach at first and Gutpelet to score from third to put the Red Devils up 1-0. Parise then scored to make it 2-0 on a groundout to first from Acocella.
- The Shorewomen put two runners on in the bottom of the first, but did not score.
- Washington would get two runners aboard in the bottom of the fifth with two away as Stokes reached on a fielders choice and stole second base, followed by a walk from Caroline Braungard, but would not score. 
- Two straight singles from McConney and Acocella with two outs in the top of the sixth gave the Red Devils a pair of baserunners, but a groundout ended the inning.
- Butler singled with two outs in the bottom of the sixth and pinch runner Julia Hallman stole second base to get into scoring position, but a fly out ended the inning.
- Amelia Mazza started the bottom of the seventh with a pinch hit double to right center field and got to third base on a wild pitch, but she was stranded there as two groundouts and a fly out to right field ended the game.  

For the Shorewomen (8-18-1 Overall, 1-4-1 Centennial Conference)
- Hitting: Mazza (double), Braungard (hit, walk), Butler (hit), Alli Saul (hit), Rachel DiMarcello (hit), Megan Robbins (walk), Kerrigan Buck (walk), Stokes (stolen base), Hallman (stolen base).
- Pitching: Butler (loss, 3-8, seven innings, five hits, two runs, two walks, four strikeouts).
- The Shorewomen had five hits in the loss, drew three walks, and left eight runners on base.
- Washington played a clean game defensively, committing zero errors.

For Dickinson (13-11 Overall, 6-0 Centennial Conference)
- Hitting: McConney (2-for-3), Acocella (hit, RBI), Parise (hit, run, stolen base), Gutpelet (walk, run).
- Pitching: Killian Kueny (win, 5-3, seven innings, five hits, zero runs, three walks, one strikeout).
- The Red Devils had five hits in the win, drew a pair of walks, and left five runners on base.
- Dickinson also played a clean game defensively, committing zero errors.

Notes
- Butler was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player Of The Game on the webcast of the game for the seventh time in her career.
- Dickinson is the only undefeated team left in Centennial Conference play at 6-0.
