Box Score Lewis Scores Team High 20 Points On His Senior Day
CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Washington College men's basketball team completed their second consecutive season sweep of visiting Gettysburg and kept their playoff hopes alive with a 79-70 win in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game played today at Cain Athletic Center in Chestertown, Maryland. The win came in the team's home finale and on the team's Senior Day.

How It Happened
- A three from Alec Lewis gave Washington an early 8-2 lead with 17:58 left in the half before Gettysburg countered with a 10-4 run to tie the game at 12-12 with 13:46 to go in the half on a dunk from Nick Antolini.
- Logan Bunch gave the Shoremen their largest lead of the opening half at 31-22 with 3:58 remaining following his offensive rebound and a putback layup. Austin Allen would later cap the first half scoring on a pair of free throws with 36 seconds to play to give Washington a 36-30 lead at the break.
- The Bullets started the second half on a 12-6 run to tie the game at 42-42 with 15:34 to go following an Antolini layup and later took a 48-46 lead with 12:39 to go following a pair of made free throws from Danny Duffey.
- Washington would respond with an 11-3 run to reclaim a six point lead at 57-51 with 10:06 to go following a three pointer from Dallas Marshall. A jumper from Daniel Brown during the run gave the Shoremen the lead back for good with 11:50 left.
- A layup from Duffey cut the lead to two at 57-55 with 9:00 to go, but Washington again pushed the lead back to six following a free throw by Brown with 7:26 to play to set the score at 63-57.
- Duffey would once again hit two free throws to make it a two point game at 65-63 with 5:07 to go, but an offensive foul by Avery Close with 4:33 left set up a three pointer from Derrick Carter with 4:15 remaining to push the lead back to 68-63.
- Antolini buried a three on the next possession to cut the lead to 68-66 with 4:01 to play, and neither team would score again for over the next two minutes. Marshall would foul out with 1:49 to go, but Close missed the front end of a one-and-one and Dilyn Becker grabbed the rebound. Lewis then buried a three with 1:37 to play to give Washington a 71-66 advantage.
- Duffey knocked down a pair of free throws with 1:21 to go to again cut the lead to a single possession at 71-68. Following a Bullets timeout, Tray Wright then threw a pass three quarters of the length of the court behind the entire Gettysburg defense on the inbounds play, which was caught by Lewis, who then made a layup while getting fouled by Antolini. He then completed the traditional three point play with the free throw to give the Shoremen a 74-68 lead with just 1:19 to go.
- Alex Leder made a layup just nine seconds later to set the score at 74-70 with 1:10 to go, and Lewis hit one of two from the line to make it a 75-70 game with 45 seconds left. Antolini missed a three on the next possession, and Wright would grab the rebound and be fouled by Leder. Wright made those two free throws to put the game away, and would later make another pair of free throws with 23 seconds to go to provide the final margin.
For the Shoremen (8-15 Overall, 6-10 Centennial Conference)
- Lewis (20 points, 4-for-6 from three point range), Brown (15 points, eight rebounds), Marshall (10 points), Allen (career and game high seven assists), Wright (nine points, game high four steals), Becker (nine points), Bunch (five rebounds, game high two blocks).
- The Shoremen shot 49.1% (26-for-53) from the floor in the win, 50% (8-for-16) from three point range, and 67.9% (19-for-28) at the free throw line.
- Washington held a slim 30-29 advantage in rebounding, a 21-6 advantage in bench points, and turned the ball over 14 times while forcing 16 turnovers from gettysburg.
For Gettysburg (12-11 Overall, 6-10 Centennial Conference)
- Antolini (game high 27 points), Close (13 points, six rebounds, six assists), Duffey (10 points, three steals).
- The Bullets shot 50% (26-for-52) from the floor in the loss, 35.7% (5-for-14) from three point range, and 86.7% (13-for-15) at the free throw line.
- Gettysburg held a 38-32 advantage in points in the paint.
Notes
- Lewis was named the Goose Nation TV Shoremen Player Of The Game on the webcast of the game for the first time in his career and Player Of The Game for the fifth time in his career overall. This was his second 20+ point game off the year, his other one coming back against Cairn in the second home game of the season when he led all players with 24 points.
- Lewis, Allen, and Marshall were all honored for Senior Day in a pregame ceremony, along with team managers Liv Stepanian and Karlie Dolan. They are the first recruiting class under current fifth year Head Coach Aaron Goodman.
- With the win, Washington moves to within one game of Ursinus for the final playoff spot in the Centennial Conference with two games to play.
