Quattro's Last Second Free Throw Gives Shorewomen, 77-76, Come-From-Behind Win Against #22 Gettysburg On Senior Day

Chestertown, Md. — Senior forward Cassidy Quattro's free throw with 1.8 seconds left gave the Washington College Shorewomen a 77-76 victory against the No. 22 ranked Gettysburg Bullets, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Cain Athletic Center. The hosts improved to 10-13 (7-11 Centennial) while the Bullets dropped to 20-3 (16-2 Centennial). It was the second straight last second victory for the Shorewomen.  Taylor Samuels scored a season-high 19 points and went 11-for-11 from the foul line to pace Washington.

How It Happened 

- Gettysburg jumped out to a 10-4 advantage after Ashley Gehrin's layup at the 6:37 mark.
- Washington answered with an 8-4 spurt to trim the deficit to 14-12 with 2:48 remaining in the opening quarter. Gemma Mochi and Emily Helms swished back-to-back triples after Bridget McLaughlin's jumper ignited the stretch.
- Quattro converted a jumper to knot the game at 16-all with :48 left in the period but Carly Rice responded with a trifecta to spot the visitors a 19-16 lead at the first quarter horn.
- The Shorewomen ran out to a 26-19 lead, their largest of the game, after opening the second quarter with 10 straight points over the first 90 seconds. Quattro opened the burst with a conventional 3-point play and Samuels did the same to make it 22-19. Samuels then hit four more free throws following a foul and an additional technical foul on Gettysburg's bench.
- The Bullets, however, scored seven unanswered points to even the game at 26-all with 6:09 left.
- The hosts led 32-28 after a jumper by Samuels with 3:51 remaining before halftime but the visitors outscored the Shorewomen by a 13-7 margin to take a 41-39 lead into the locker room.
- Quattro opened the third quarter with a layup to even the contest before the visitors went on a 7-0 spurt to grab a 48-41 lead with 7:53 left.
- Washington continued to battle and embarked on a 9-2 run to even the score for the eighth time of the contest at 50-50 with just over three minutes left. McLaughlin splashed a trey to start the stretch, Lizzie Hudock converted a pair of buckets and Caitlyn Clark completed a fast-break layup to account for the scoring.
- Gettysburg ended the stanza on a 10-2 burst to claim a 60-52 advantage entering the final quarter.
- The visitors looked as though they would cruise to a victory as they widened their lead to as many as 11 points on two different occasions in the fourth frame. Meredith Brown converted a pair of attempts from the line to make it 69-58 with just 6:05 left in the contest.
- Washington still trailed 73-65 with four minutes to play but rattled off 11 consecutive points to surge ahead, 76-73, with just 33 ticks left. Clark grabbed an offensive rebound and completed a layup to even the score and Andrea Prestianne made one of two from the line to spot the hosts a 74-73 lead. Crystal Jones hit a clutch jumper to complete the monster run.
- Jones fouled Rice on a three-point attempt with 23 seconds left and Rice made all three attempts to tie the game for the 10th time at 76-76.
- Quattro came up big as she grabbed Clark's missed layup and drew a foul with 1.8 ticks left. Quattro made the first attempt and missed on the second shot.
- The visitors called a timeout and Rice's desperation shot at the buzzer was well short.

 For the Shorewomen
- Clark added eight points and a team-high four assists in her final home contest. Jones contributed a team-best five boards and finished 7-for-16 from the floor. Quattro scored eight points and added a game-high two steals.
- The Shorewomen made 25-of-65 of their overall attempts (38.5 percent), went 4-for-17 from downtown (23.5 percent) and were 23-of-29 from the charity-stripe (79.3 percent).
- Samuels was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewomen Player of the Game.

 For Gettysburg
- Gehrin paced four players in double-digits with 19 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Rice finished with 17 points.
- The visitors shot 48.1 percent overall (25-of-52), hit 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from behind the arc, and went 16-for-21 (76.2 percent) from the line.
