Box Score Wright Leads Four Shoremen In Double Figures With 17 Points; Team Stays Alive In Centennial Playoff Hunt
WESTMINSTER, Md. — Visiting Washington College finished regulation on an 18-4 run, capped off by three Derrick Carter free throws with 0.8 seconds to go to force overtime, and would go on to defeat host McDaniel in overtime, 82-75, in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game played tonight on Rebecca Martin Court at the Gill Center in Westminster, Maryland. The win by the Shoremen, combined with a home loss for Ursinus against Muhlenberg, pulls Washington into a tie with Ursinus for the final playoff spot in the conference tournament heading into the regular season finale on Saturday.

How It Happened
- The Green Terror held a 19-13 lead before the Shoremen scored the next nine points to take their first lead of the night at 22-19 with 8:31 to play in the opening half following a layup from Patrick Devitt.
- McDaniel responded by scoring the next six points to reclaim the lead at 25-22 with 6:33 left in the half following a layup from Caleb Johnson.
- The Green Terror held the lead for the rest of the half and would take a 38-35 lead into the locker room, but Tray Wright gave the Shoremen momentum going into the locker room as he would rebound a missed shot and go end-to-end for a layup as time expired.
- McDaniel used a 9-2 spurt in the first 3:07 of the second half to take their first double digit lead at 47-37 following a traditional three point play from Mike Wallace.
- Washington responded by scoring the next seven points to trim the lead to 47-44 with 15:17 to go after a jumper from Austin Allen, but the Green Terror would use another 9-2 run to push the lead back to double digits at 56-46 with 11:50 to play. The run grew into a larger 17-6 run as McDaniel would open up their largest lead of the night at 64-50 with 5:52 to go following a free throw from Sam Beverly.
- The Shoremen would score the next seven points to slice the lead in half to 64-57 with 4:09 remaining, but the Green Terror would score four of the next six points to extend the lead to 68-59 with 2:25 to go.
- Washington would score the next six points to trim the lead to 68-65 with 43.2 seconds remaining, forcing a timeout from McDaniel. The Green Terror would get the ball across mid-court and again call a timeout with 18.5 seconds to go and six seconds on the shot clock. Washington would play tight defense and force McDaniel to throw the ball out of bounds with 14.6 seconds to go, and the Shoremen would get the ball across mid-court and call for a timeout of their own with 11.2 seconds to play.
- Wright missed a three pointer from the left wing with less than three seconds to go, but Carter grabbed the offensive rebound, raced to the right corner, and got a three pointer away with 0.8 seconds to go, which he missed, but he was fouled in the act of shooting.
- Carter hit the first free throw, then the Green Terror would call their final timeout. Carter then hit his two remaining free throws to tie the game at 68-68 and send the game into overtime. All told, the Shoremen outscored McDaniel 9-0 in the last 2:25 of regulation and 18-4 in the last 5:52 of regulation to send the game into overtime.
- Washington continued their run into overtime, as a pair of free throws from Dallas Marshall, a jumper from Alec Lewis, and a layup from Wright gave the Shoremen a 74-68 lead and forced McDaniel to call a timeout with 2:50 to play in overtime. The free throws from Marshall gave the Shoremen their first lead since going ahead 22-19 midway through the first half.
- Wallace ended the run with a traditional three point play to slice the lead to 74-71 with 2:09 to play, but Lewis responded with a jumper on the other end to push the lead back to five.
- Wallace would again grab a basket to slice the lead to three at 76-73, before Wright would be fouled on the other end and hit two free throws to extend the Shoremen lead to 78-73 with 1:05 to go.
- The Green Terror got a pair of wide open three point looks on the other end from Wallace and Josh Sproul, but neither one would fall and Allen would grab the rebound and get fouled. He would then hit both free throws with 35 seconds to go to push the Washington lead out to 80-73.
- Wright would get a steal for the Shoremen on the other end and would be fouled with 21.7 seconds to play, hitting one of his two free throws to push the lead to 81-73. A layup from Sproul on the other end cut the lead to 81-75, but Allen would hit one of two free throws with 6.8 seconds to play to make it an 82-75 lead and set the final margin.
For the Shoremen (9-15 Overall, 7-10 Centennial Conference)
- Wright (17 points, two steals), Marshall (14 points, eight rebounds, two blocks), Lewis (11 points, game high three steals), Dilyn Becker (11 points, two steals).
- The Shoremen shot 41.5% (22-for-53) from the floor in the win, 40% (6-for-15) from three point range, and 71.1% (32-for-45) at the free throw line.
- Washington turned the ball over just nine times and forced 22 turnovers by McDaniel, turning those 22 turnovers into 33 points. The Shoremen also held a 16-0 advantage in fastbreak points, a 33-12 advantage in points off turnovers, and a 32-11 advantage in bench points.
For McDaniel (6-18 Overall, 2-15 Centennial Conference)
- Wallace (game high 24 points), Sproul (18 points), Kaelen Kanealey (game bests of 12 rebounds and three blocks).
- The Green Terror shot 54% (27-for-50) from the floor in the loss, 46.7% (7-for-15) from three point range, and 87.5% (14-for-16) at the free throw line.
- McDaniel held a 34-28 advantage in rebounding and a 36-16 advantage in points in the paint.
Notes
- The win gives Washington their first season sweep of the Green Terror since the 2011-2012 season, which is also the last time the Shoremen won on the road against McDaniel.
- Marshall will enter the regular season finale on Saturday six points shy of becoming the 36th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

- A win for the Shoremen, combined with an Ursinus loss at Franklin & Marshall, would earn the Shoremen the five seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament. A win for both Washington and Ursinus would put the Bears into the conference tournament due to Ursinus sweeping the season series. A loss by the Shoremen would eliminate Washington from playoff contention due to various tiebreaker scenarios, regardless of if Ursinus wins or loses.
- Washington is in search of their first win at Dickinson since a 59-55 win back on January 12th, 2010.
