Shorewomen Hang Tough With Haverford But Eventually Fall, 53-42

Chestertown, Md. — The Washington College Shorewomen dropped a 53-42 decision against the Haverford Fords, in a Centennial Conference contest on Thursday evening at the Cain Athletic Center. Taylor Samuels recorded a team-high 10 points and added four blocks to lead the Shorewomen, who fell to 8-13 overall and 5-11 in the league. Haverford improved to 17-3 and 14-1 in the conference.

How It Happened
- The visitors led from start to finish as they jumped out to an 8-0 advantage at the 7:01 mark. Julianna Clark and Anna-Sophia Capizzi each hit long-range shots during the stretch for the Fords.
- Gemma Mochi and Madeline Williams delivered consecutive jumpers to bring the hosts within 8-4, but Capizzi answered with another trey at the 4:28 mark.
- Samuels cut the deficit to 11-7 after nailing a triple at the 1:15 mark. Following a layup by Megan Furch, Williams swished a jumper to cut the deficit to 14-9 at the end of the opening quarter.
- The Shorewomen were still within just five points after Bridget McLaughlin's jumper made it 20-15 with 6:48 left, however, the Fords scored six straight points to widen their lead to 11. Raina Gully capped the run with a trifecta off an assist by Maddie Gallic with 3:25 left in the half.
- Washington ended the stanza on a 7-2 spurt to close within 28-22 heading into the break. McLaughlin initiated the stretch with a 3-pointer, Samuels converted a jumper and McLaughlin scored again on another jumper.
- Emilee Cramer knocked down a long-range bomb for the opening points of the third quarter to inch the hosts within 28-25. The visitors answered with nine consecutive points to claim a 37-25 advantage at the 3:11 mark. 
- Capizzi hit a 3-pointer to make it 40-27 before Cassidy Quattro beat the buzzer to bring the Shorewomen within 40-29 after three frames.
-Washington was unable to get within single-digits in the final stanza as the Fords led by as many as 15 points with just under four minutes remaining.

For the Shorewomen
- Samuels added seven rebounds to go along with her team-high 10 rebounds in just 28 minutes. McLaughlin contributed seven points and Quattro added six points, six boards and a team and career-high five rejections. Caitlyn Clark added a team-best eight rebounds
- The Shorewomen shot 29.5% (18-of-61) from the floor overall, 14.8% (4-of-27) from three-point range, and 66.7% (2-for-3) at the free throw line.
- Washington out-boarded the visitors by a 48-46 margin and their bench outscored Haverford by a 13-11 margin. They also swatted 10 shots compared to six by the Fords.

For Haverford
- Megan Furch paced the Fords with 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting. Capizzi recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 caroms. Julianna Clark was also in double-figures with 10 rebounds.
- The Fords shot 28.4% (19-of-67) from the floor overall, 33.3% (6-for-18) from three-point range, and 69.2% (9-of-13) at the free throw line.
