Box Score 2 Top Northwestern (Minn.) in Opener and Fall in Nine Innings to Trinity (Texas) in Second Game
MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Washington College softball team split a pair of 3-2 games on Tuesday afternoon at the Minneola Athletic Complex. The Shorewomen won their first game against Northwestern (Minn.) 3-2 before falling in nine innings in the second game to Trinity (Texas) by the same score.

How It Happened
- In the top of the third inning, the Shorewomen scored their three runs in the game. With one away, Julia Hallman scored on a single down the left field line by Kayla Booros for the first run of the game. Two batters later, Rachel Butler helped her own cause with a two-run double to left-center to plate Alyssa Vieira and Booros to cap the three-run frame.
- The Eagles got one back in the last of the third when with two outs Briggs Carlson singled up the middle to plate Shelby Stoll to cut the lead to 3-1.
- Northwestern (Minn.) would reduce the lead to one run on a two-out base hit to right field by Bridgette Kollos that chased in Carlson.
- In the last of the seventh, the Eagles loaded the bases with nobody out on a hit by pitch and back-to-back singles. With nobody out, Booros got Courtney Schmidt to line out to Megan Robbins at shortstop for the first out. With one away, Kollos hit a fly ball to right fielder Amelia Mazza for the second out. On the play Hannah Woodsworth tried to score from the third, but she got caught in a rundown and Booros was able to tag her out to end the game.
For The Shorewomen (6-3)
- Hitting: Booros (2-for-3, RBI), Butler (two RBI)
- Pitching: Butler (win 3-3, 4 1/3 innings, three hits, one run, one earned, three walks, six strikeouts), Booros (save 1, 2 2/3 innings, three hits, one run, zero earned, one walk, two strikeouts)
- Washington had five hits, worked out four walks, had reach on hit by pitch and left eight on base.
- The Shorewomen's one error led to one unearned Northwestern (Minn.) run.
For Northwestern (Minn.) (3-10)
- Hitting: Carlson (2-for-4, run, RBI)
- Pitching: Samantha Burkhart (loss 0-1, 2 1/3 innings, four hits, three runs, two earned, three walks, zero strikeouts)
- The Eagles had six hits, drew four walks and had three get on via hit by pitch while leaving 10 stranded.
- Northwestern (Minn.) had two errors, leading to one unearned Washington run.

- Booros picked up her first career save in the win.
Trinity (Texas) 3 Washington College 2 (9 Innings)
How It Happened
- Washington struck in the bottom of the first inning for two runs on a two-out single to right-center by Grace Moery that scored Lexie Witmer and Rachel DiMarcello.
- In the top of the third, the Tigers trimmed the lead to 2-1 on a two-out base hit up the middle off the bat of Brianna Pena that scored Jenna Kash.
- Trinity (Texas) tied it on a one out wild pitch that allowed Emily Barefield to score from third to knot the game at 2-2 in the top half of the fifth.
- The score would remained tied for four more innings before the Tigers scored the winning run in the top of the ninth. With one away, Danielle Ruiz hit a sacrifice fly to left that was deep enough to score Christina Garcia to give the Tigers a 3-2 edge.
- Washington got a runner to third in the bottom half of the ninth with one away, but a strikeout and line out ended the game.
For The Shorewomen (6-4)
- Hitting: DiMarcello (2-for-5), Moery (two RBI)
- Pitching: Booros (loss 0-1, four innings, zero hits, one run, team unearned, zero walks, one strikeout), Butler (five innings, four hits, two runs, one earned, four walks, four strikeouts)
- Washington had six hits in the game, had a player get on via hit by pitch, worked out three walks and left 12 on base.
- The Shorewomen committed one error in the game, leading to one run for the Tigers.
For Trinity (Texas) (7-10)
