Box Score 2 Fall to Belhaven 7-1 and Nipped by Saint Mary's (Ind.) 1-0
CLERMONT, Fla. – Senior Leah Stokes (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) became the 25th Washington College softball player to reach 100 career hits against Belhaven in the team's first game of the day, but it was not enough as the Shorewomen fell to the Blazers 7-1 on Thursday at Legends Way Ballfields. In the second game, Washington was edged by Saint Mary's (Ind.) 1-0.

How It Happened
- In the top of the second inning, the Blazers scored twice to take a 2-0 lead on a two-out triple to right field by Marlee Blackwell that scored Anna Peyton Montesi and Sarah Depperschmidt.
- Stokes would reach her milestone hit with nobody out in the last of the third when she singled to left field with nobody out. With one away, Washington got its lone run when Julia Hallman scored on a fielder's choice.
- Belhaven blew open the game with a three-run top of the fifth. With one away, Abby Trahan singled to right field to score Blackwell to make it 3-1. The next hitter, Brittany Chetta hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Allie Gordon to push the lead to three. With two outs, Haley Hanson made it 5-1 on a base hit to left field to drive in Elizabeth Taggard.
- The Blazers added two in the top of the seventh to provide the final margin.
For The Shorewomen (6-5)
- Hitting: Lexie Witmer (1-for-3, RBI), Alli Saul (1-for-2, walk)
- Pitching: Rachel Butler (loss 3-4, 4 1/3 innings, four hits, two runs, two earned, three walks, one strikeout)
- Washington had five hits, worked out three walks and left six on base.
- The Shorewomen did not commit an error.
For Belhaven (13-3)
- Hitting: Blackwell (4-for-4, two RBI), Allie Gordon (2-for-3, run), Taggard (two runs), Hanson (2-for-2, RBI, run), Depperschmidt (2-for-4, run, RBI)
- Pitching: Kassie Shipley (win 2-1, five hits, one run, one earned, three walks, two strikeouts)
- The Blazers had 13 hits and drew four walks while leaving 10 stranded.
- Belhaven had one error, leading to zero unearned Washington runs.

- The most recent WC player to reach 100 hits prior to Stokes was Maddie Bennett '19 who did it in Florida a year ago.

How It Happened
- Washington had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the first, but Belles' pitcher Mandi Hettinger struck out the next two hitters to keep the Shorewomen off the scoreboard.
- Saint Mary's would leave the bases loaded in the first and fourth innings and leave runners stranded on second and third in the second and third innings.
- The Belles would score the game's lone run in the bottom of the fifth when Alyssa Guiterrez singled with two away to drive in Mac Pepper from second.
- Washington would get a runner on first in the top of the seventh, but would not get any further as Saint Mary's would hold on for the win.
For The Shorewomen (6-6)
- Hitting: Stokes (1-for-2), Megan Robbins (1-for-3)
- Pitching: Avery Byrnes (loss 3-1, complete game, five hits, one run, one earned, nine walks, six strikeouts)
- Washington had two hits in the game, had a player get on via hit by pitch, worked out one walk and left five on base.
- The Shorewomen committed zero errors.
For Saint Mary (Ind.) (6-4)
