Box Score 2 Edged by Lakeland 4-3 and Downed by Mount St. Joseph, 6-2
MINNEOLA, Fla. – The Washington College softball team dropped its final two games in Florida at the Mineola Softball Complex on Friday. The Shorewomen fell in the first game of the day to Lakeland, 4-3, and were topped by Mount St. Joseph in the second contest, 6-2.

How It Happened
- In the bottom of the first inning, the Shorewomen struck for a pair of runs. With nobody out, Megan Robbins plated Grace Moery on a single and two hitters later with one away, Rachel Butler drove in Lexie Witmer on a base hit.
- The score would remain 2-0 until the top of the sixth when with one out Morgan Schiedemeyer socked a three-run home run to give the Muskies a 3-2 lead. Scoring ahead of her were Sabrina Wickman and Maddie Blankenship.
- Lakeland would get an insurance run in the top of the seventh as with one away Ariana Brown scored on an error by Washington.
- The Shorewomen got a run back in the bottom of the seventh as Rachel DiMarcello singled with two outs to plate Moery and got the winning run to the plate in Kayla Booros. But Muskies' pitcher Lindsay Cudecki got Booros to hit into a fielder's choice to end the game.
For The Shorewomen (6-7)
- Hitting: Witmer (3-for-4, run), Moery (2-for-4, two runs), Butler (2-for-3, RBI)
- Pitching: Butler (loss 3-5, 5 2/3 innings, eight hits, three runs, three earned, zero walks, five strikeouts)
- Washington had 13 hits, worked out one walk and left seven on base.
- The Shorewomen committed one error, leading to one unearned run for Lakeland.
For Lakeland (4-5)
- Hitting: Schiedemeyer (three-run home run), Lexie Upson (2-for-4), Sydney Wickman (3-for-3)
- Pitching: Cudecki (win 2-3, 13 hits, three runs, two earned, one walk, two strikeouts)
- The Muskies had nine hits and drew zero walks while leaving six stranded.
- Lakeland had zero errors, but had a passed ball that led to one unearned run for WC.

How It Happened
- Washington got a run in the top of the first inning when Moery stole home following a walk to Chrissy Segrest with two away for the game's first run.
- Mount St. Joseph would put a four spot in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead. With one away, Ali Lang scored on a sacrifice fly to centerfield off the bat of Brooke Otto to tie the game. The next hitter with two outs, Elizabeth Ivers singled in Laura Taylor to put the Lions ahead 2-1. Following Ivers' hit, Sarah Miller aided her own cause and hit a two-run homer to put Mount St. Joseph ahead 4-1 to cap the scoring.
- The Shorewomen got it back to 4-2 with nobody out in the top of the fifth when Witmer scored due to obstruction.
- In the last of the fifth, the Lions got two runs to lead 6-2. With nobody out, Ivers plated Taylor on a base hit to make it 5-2. With one out, Kaitlin Leslie scored on an error to give Mount St. Joseph a four-run lead.
- Washington loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with nobody out and the Lions brought in Kamryn McCool to preserve the lead. McCool would strike out the first two WC hitters she faced and then got Alyssa Vieira to ground out to Makayla Hanes at third for the game's final out.
For The Shorewomen (6-8)
- Hitting: Witmer (1-for-3, run), DiMarcello (1-for-1, double, hit by pitch three times), Segrest (1-for-2, walk, hit by pitch)
- Pitching: Avery Byrnes (loss 3-2, complete game, eight hits, six runs, five earned, four walks, three strikeouts)
- Washington had five hits in the game, reached base four times via hit by pitch, worked out three walks and left 12 on base.
- The Shorewomen committed two errors, leading to one unearned run for the Lions.
For Mount St. Joseph (9-6)
- Hitting: Ivers (2-for-4, two RBI), Alehia Tucker (2-for-4), Miller (1-for-2, home run, two RBI), Taylor (1-for-2, run, walk)
- Pitching: Miller (win 4-3, six-plus innings, five hits, two runs, two earned, three walks, two strikeouts), McCool (save 3, one inning, zero hits, runs and walks, two strikeouts)
- The Lions had eight hits and worked out four walks as they left six on base.
- Mount St. Joseph had three errors in the game, leading to zero WC runs.
