Shorewomen Outlast Mules In Five-Set Thriller on Senior Day

First Win Over Muhlenberg in 11 Years

HIGHLIGHTS

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College volleyball team held off a rally from Muhlenberg in the fifth and final set to come away with a 3-2 (25-19, 18-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13) win at home on Saturday afternoon at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in a Centennial Conference volleyball match.  The Shorewomen are now 9-11 overall and 2-6 in the Centennial, while the Mules are 10-12 and 3-6 respectively.  Today's win was Washington's first win over Muhlenberg since a four-set win in 2010 and first all-time home win in the series.

How It Happened
- Tied at 13-13 in the first set, the Shorewomen won the next three points to take control of the set at 16-13 following an attack error by the Mules.  An attack miscue by Muhlenberg ended the first. 
- In the second set, Muhlenberg broke a 9-9 draw with six straight points to go ahead 15-9 following an attack error by Washington.  The Shorewomen would trim the lead to 17-15 following a Courtney Maxwell finisher before the Mules went on an 8-3 run to close the set, winning it on an assisted block by Jenna Stockfeder and Rachel Jacobs.
- Level at 21-21 in the third set, the hosts won four of the last six points to win the set by two with a service error by the visitors ending the third.
- Down 16-13 in the fourth set, Muhlenberg won 12 of the final 17 points to force a fifth and final set.  Christina Dalton capped the run with a kill.
- Washington raced out to a 13-5 lead in the fifth set on a kill by Angelina Schaber.  The Mules would score nine of the next 10 points to trim the lead to 14-13 on an attack error by the Shorewomen.  WC would get the winning point of the set and match on an attack miscue by the Mules.

For The Shorewomen (9-11, 2-6 CC)
- Maxwell (15 kills to lead all players), Schaber (14 kills and three blocks), Sylvia Johnson (11 kills and 15 digs), Jenna Daunoras (11 kills and three blocks), Jordan Fairchild (13 digs), Lauren Zedlar (25 assists and 14 digs), Jensyn Hartzell (24 assists) 
- Team hit .187 in the contest, notched seven rejections and served up seven aces.

For Muhlenberg (10-12, 3-6 CC)
- Esmae Oehler (12 kills), Emma Eglinton (contest-best 35 assists to go along with five blocks), Alyssa Faville (match-high 23 digs), Stockfeder (five blocks), Amirah Moody (match-topping three aces)
- The Mules hit .111 in the contest, had eight blocks and eight aces.

Notes
- Daunoras was named the Goose Nation TV Shorewoman Player of the Match.
- The Shorewomen snapped a nine-match losing streak to the Mules as they last won in 2010 in a four-set road win in Allentown, Pa.
- Team honored the three seniors Daunoras, Hartzell and Zedlar prior to the match.
