Box Score Chestertown, Md – The Washington College men's basketball team dropped their Centennial Conference season-opener to the Haverford Fords, 74-61, on Tuesday evening on Finnegan Court. The Shoremen fall to 1-4 (0-1 C.C.) while the Fords improve to 4-2 (1-0 C.C.)
How It Happened
- The Shoremen scored the opening bucket for their only lead of the game as sophomore forward Sam Corrao converted on the interior in the opening minute.
- The visitors scored the next nine points over a four-minute stretch and never trailed again.
- Senior guard Tray Wright converted on a driving layup and then hit one of two from the line on the next trip down to bring the Shoremen within 14-9 with 11:56 remaining in the stanza.
- The Fords then went on a 12-3 spurt to widen their lead to 26-12 at the 7:56 mark. Junior guard Ryan Trotter, who handed out ten assists, completed a conventional three-point play to cap the run.
- A driving layup by junior guard Charlie Mamlin with thirty seconds left before the break gave the visitors their largest lead of the half at 39-23.
- Wright and sophomore guard Kedrick Frink opened the second-half with driving layups to cut the deficit to 39-27 at the 18:45 mark.
- The visitors responded with a trey by sophomore guard Nicholas Stewart and a layup by freshman forward Harry Johnson to push their lead to 44-27 with 16:49 left to play.
- Washington College responded with a 12-3 burst to close within single-digits at 47-39 with 14:01 left. Frink had six points during the stretch and senior guard Dilyn Becker added a pair of buckets.
- Haverford, however, managed to re-capture the momentum as they responded with 11 unanswered point to expand their lead to 58-39 with 9:01 left
- The Shoremen closed to within seven points, 68-61, on a jumper by Becker with 1:33 left but were unable to get any closer.
For the Shoremen
- Becker paced Washington with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting.
- Corrao (12 points, 5 boards) and Frink (11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 steals) were also in double-digits.
- Wright added nine points and a team-high four assists
- The Shoremen shot 38.3 percent overall (23-of-60) and were just 4-for-23 (17.4 percent) from behind the arc.
For the Fords
- Johnson recorded game-highs in points (19) and caroms (9) and went 9-of-15 from the floor.
- Guard Gabriel Franklin added 14 points and three steals and guard Josh Love was also in double-digits with 13 points
- Haverford hit 28-of-57 field goal attempts for a 49.1 percent clip. The Fords were even better from deep as they drained 9-of-15 attempts (60 percent) and went 9-for-10 from the charity-stripe.

- Washington College will travel to Annapolis on Wednesday to take on Navy tomorrow (Wednesday) at 2:00 p.m. The game is an exhibition contest for the Shoremen and will count for the Midshipmen.
