Chestertown, MD – Washington College's dominance in the "War on the Shore" in swimming continued on Saturday afternoon as the Shoremen made quick work of the Salisbury Sea Gulls, 190-68, at Casey Swim Center. The Shoremen improve to 2-2 while the Sea Gulls fall to 1-1.
The Shoremen won 10 individual events and a pair of relays. Junior Gage Mandrell, freshmen Zach Affeldt and senior Nate Braddock each won a pair of events to lead the squad.
Mandrell won the 100 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke with the eight-fastest time in school history in both races. He took the free in 47.51 and added the breast in 59.86. Both results were personal-best swims.
Affeldt won both the 100 backstroke (55.04) and the 100 butterfly (54.25) while Braddock captured the 50 freestyle (23.40) and the 500 freestyle (5:04.99).
Other first-place performances were turned in by freshmen Chase Hensen (200 freestyle, 1:50.04), freshmen Carson Taylor (200 breaststroke, 2:25.23), freshmen Jack Poleto (200 butterfly, 2:03.52), and sophomore Justin Morris (200 individual medley, 2:05.08).
The 200 free relay team won their race in 1:28.97. Sophomore Bianti Danaj, Hensen, Affeldt and sophomore Benjamin Wilson led the Shoremen to the victory.
The 200 medley relay team of Mandrell, Hensen, Poleto, and Wilson touched the wall first in 1:39.90.
The Shoremen will travel to McDaniel next Saturday.
