Shoremen Use Strong Second Half to Down Mighty Macs in Home Opener, 84-76

Highlights

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College outscored visiting Immaculata 52-41 in the second half to come away with a 84-76 win on Tuesday night in a non-conference men's basketball game on Finnegan Court at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium in the home opener for WC.  The Shoremen improve to 1-1 overall, while the Mighty Macs fall to 1-2.

How It Happened
- Tied at 13-13, Immaculata scored five straight points to take an 18-13 lead on a three-pointer by Asa Kitchen.  The five-point advantage was the largest by either team in the first half. 
- The Shoremen would answer with a 9-0 run to take a 22-18 lead with 8:08 left in the half on two free throws by Ethan Sommer.  The four-point lead was WC's largest of the opening 20 minutes
- Kitchen would break a 32-32 tie with 1:13 left on a three and would give the Mighty Macs a 35-32 lead at halftime.
- Tray Wright would snap a 40-40 tie with 15:45 left in the second half on a traditional three-point play to put Washington ahead for good at 43-40.  It would ignite a 15-3 run that saw the hosts take a 55-43 lead with 11:26 to go in the game on a Dillon Smith lay-in.  The 12-point lead was the team's largest of the game.
- Immaculata would get it within six with 8:44 to go in the game on a Tyler Tillery transition layup at 57-51, but could not draw any closer.
- Washington would push its lead back to 12 points with 2:18 remaining on a Jason Zielinski jumper in the paint to make it 72-60.  The Shoremen canned 12 free throws in the final 1:26 to seal the win.

For The Shoremen (1-1)
- Kedrick Frink (team-high 18 points), Wright (13 points and contest-high six assists), Sam Corrao (10 points), Precieux Tshibangu (game-best five blocks and eight rebounds to tie for game-high), Dilyn Becker (game-best and career-high four steals)
- The Shoremen shot 48% (28-for-59) from the floor, 24% (4-for-17) from three-point range and 67% (24-for-36) from the foul line. 
- Washington outscored the Mighty Macs in points off turnovers (17-13), bench points (25-12), points in the paint (42-40) and second chance points (12-9).
- The Shoremen had 16 turnovers while holding a 39-36 edge in rebounds.

For Immaculata (1-2)
- Kitchen (game-high 21 points), Brandon McCullough (10 points and team-highs of five assists and three steals), Gregory Vlassopoulos (14 points), Tillery (11 points), Keith Farmer (eight boards to tie for game-best)  
- The Mighty Macs shot 45% (29-for-64) from the floor, 35% (9-for-26) from three-point range and 53% (9-for-17) from the free throw stripe.    
- Immaculata scored all eight points in transition in the game.
- The Mighty Macs had 20 turnovers in the contest.

Notes
- Tshibangu was named the Goose Nation Shoremen Player of the Game on the Goose Nation TV webcast of the game. 
- Tonight was the first all-time meeting between the Mighty Macs and the Shoremen in men's basketball.
