Becker Scores Career-Best 24 Points

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior guard Dilyn Becker (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) scored a game-high and career-best 24 points for visiting Washington College, but it was not enough as host Gettysburg scored the last four points of the game to come away with a 64-61 win on Saturday afternoon in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game at Bream Gym.  The Bullets improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen fall to 1-6 and 0-3 respectively.

How It Happened
- Washington took its first lead of the game on a free throw by Tray Wright, 9-8, with 13:17 remaining in the first half that capped a 6-0 run by the Shoremen.
- The Bullets answered with a 10-4 run to take an 18-13 advantage with 7:47 to go in the first on a layup by Rassoul Abakar.
- Becker capped a 7-0 run to put WC back ahead 20-18 with a lay-in with 5:18 left.
- Gettysburg countered with a half-closing 10-2 run to take a six point lead into halftime at 28-22.  Jack Rooney put the Bullets ahead 22-20 with 4:45 left on two free throws and Jordan Stafford canned a free throw with less than a second left to finish the run.
- Gettysburg opened the second half with a 14-7 run to take a 42-29 lead with 16:17 remaining on a breakaway dunk by Elijah Williams, capping a 24-9 run that spanned both halves.
- Trailing by 14, their biggest deficit of the game at 46-32 following a basket by Carl Schaller with 14:32 left, the Shoremen scored 10 unanswered points to cut the lead to 46-42 with 12:04 to go on a three by Becker.
- Down 59-53 with 6:11 to go following a bucket by Avery Close, WC went on an 8-1 run to take a 61-60 lead with 2:44 left on a free throw by Ethan Sommer.  It was WC's first lead since being ahead 20-19 in the first half with 4:58 to go.
- The Bullets would retake the lead with 2:18 left on a Ryan McKeon left to put the hosts ahead for the rest of the game, 62-61.
- With six seconds left and Gettysburg ahead by one, McKeon would block Wright's potential go ahead shot and his teammate Akim Joseph was fouled with 2.9 seconds left.  Joseph would can both from the foul line to complete the scoring.

For The Shoremen (1-6, 0-3 CC)
- Becker (game-high and career-best 24 points on 10-for-17 from the floor and 4-for-6 from three; six rebounds and two steals), Wright (10 points, three assists and three steals), Kedrick Frink (six boards, four steals and three assists), Precieux Tshibangu (six rebounds)
- The Shoremen shot 42% (22-for-53) from the floor, 38% (6-for-16) from three-point range and 55% (11-for-20) from the foul line. 
- Washington had 19 turnovers in the contest.
- The Shoremen outscored the Bullets 16-7 in transition points. 

For Gettysburg (4-2, 2-1 CC)
- McKeon (15 points and game-highs of eight rebounds, six assists and two blocks), Schaller (15 points), Colin Farrell (two steals)
- The Bullets shot 36% (22-for-61) from the floor, 22% (5-for-23) from three-point range and 58% (15-for-26) from the free throw stripe. 
- Gettysburg outscored Washington in bench points (15-9), points in the paint (32-26), second chance points (6-1) and points off turnovers (21-17).
- The Bullets had 19 turnovers in the game.
- Gettysburg outrebounded Washington, 47-34.

Notes
- Becker's previous career-best was 15 points, which he achieved twice, most recently at Franklin & Marshall on February 1, 2020.
- The senior's 24 points ties for the most by a WC player this season as Jason Zielinski netted 24 at Penn State-Harrisburg on November 16.
