Shorewomen Sweep Mules in Home Finale

Shorewomen Win Opener 4-1 and Nightcap 8-3

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College swept visiting Muhlenberg in a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field.  The Shorewomen won the first game 4-1 and used an eight-run bottom of the second inning in game two, to win 8-3.  The Shorewomen are 8-8 overall and 6-4 in the conference, while the Mules are 4-12 overall and 4-10 in the Centennial.

Washington College 4 Muhlenberg 1 (Game 1)

How It Happened
- Muhlenberg took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning with a one-out single up the middle by Sabrina Reichelt that scored Sarah Raab.
- Lexie Witmer would put Washington ahead for the rest of the game in the bottom of the third with two-run base hit to left-center with one out to score both Hannah Solge and Grace Moery.
- In the bottom of the fourth, the Shorewomen took a 3-1 lead on a Solge single down the left field line with one away to score Julia Hallman.  Two hitters later, Robbins singled to center with two outs to drive in Solge to cap the scoring.
- The Mules got the tying run to the plate in the top of the sixth, but WC pitcher Lexi Barnhart got Reichelt to hit into a fielder's choice to end the threat.

For The Shorewomen (7-8, 5-4 CC)
- Hitting: Vieira (4-for-4), Solge (2-for-4, two runs, RBI), Witmer (two RBI)
- Pitching: Barnhart (win 7-3, complete game, four hits, one unearned run, three walks, seven strikeouts)
- Washington committed three errors in game one, leading to zero Muhlenberg runs.
- The Shorewomen had 10 hits and drew one walk and had one reach via hit by pitch in the game, while leaving nine on base.

For Muhlenberg (1-2, 1-2 CC)
- Hitting: Reichelt (1-for-3, RBI), Raab (run, walk)
- Pitching: Cora Bridges (loss 4-5, complete games, 10 hits, four runs, three earned, one walk, three strikeouts)
- Muhlenberg had three errors in the opener, leading to one run for WC.
-The Mules had four hits and drew three walks, while stranding eight on base.

Notes
- Vieira had her second career four-hit game with her other coming in March 2019 at Franklin & Marshall.

Washington College 8 Muhlenberg 3 (Game 2)

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen took advantage of two errors by the Mules to score eight unearned runs in the bottom of the second, six of which came after two were out.  Barnhart scored the game's first run on an infield single by Chrissy Segrest with one away.  Amelia Mazza scored on a throwing error to make it 2-0.  With two outs, Moery hit a three-run home run to centerfield to make it 5-0 with Hallman and Solge scoring ahead of her.  Three hitters later, Barnhart doubled down the left field line to plate Robbins to make it 6-0 and Mazza plated both Witmer and Barnhart to cap the eight-run outburst.
- Muhlenberg got onto the scoreboard with a leadoff homer to left-center in the top of the fourth by Genna Cicchetti.
- Cicchetti cut the lead to 8-2 with an RBI single to plate Sarah Karmazyn with two away in the top of the fifth. 
- Dara DiMaiolo plated the last run with two away in the top of the seventh as Karmazyn socred.

For The Shorewomen (8-8, 6-4 CC)
- Hitting: Moery (2-for-3, three RBI, home run), Solge (2-for-4, run), Vieira (2-for-4), Mazza (3-for-3, two RBI), Barnhart (2-for-2, two runs, RBI), Segrest (2-for-4, RBI)
- Pitching: Barnhart (win 8-3, four innings, two hits, one run, one earned, two walks, three strikeouts), Ashley Politza (save 1, three innings, six hits, two runs, one earned, zero walks, two strikeouts)
- The Shorewomen had 15 hits in the game and drew two walks as they left 10 on base.
- WC had three errors in the field, leading to one unearned run for the guests.

For Muhlenberg (4-10, 4-8 CC)
- Hitting: Cicchetti (2-for-4, two RBI, home run), Karmazyn (2-for-4, two runs), Samantha Winegard (2-for-4)
- Pitching: Raya Kunes (loss 0-1, 1 2/3 innings, seven hits, seven runs, zero earned, one walk, one strikeout), Julia DeGirolamo (four innings, six hits, zero runs, one walk, two strikeouts)
- The Mules had eight hits with the aid of two walks as they left nine on base.
- Muhlenberg committed two errors in the field, leading to all eight runs being unearned.

Notes
- Washington has won six in a row over Muhlenberg.
- Team honored its four seniors - Hallman, Mazza, Moery and Segrest after the second game.
