Box Score First Road Win in Series for WC in 32 Years
SALISBURY, Md. – The visiting Washington College men's soccer team opened its season on a strong note with a 3-0 win over host Salisbury at Sea Gull Soccer Stadium on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference men's soccer game. The victory for the Shoremen was their first win over the Sea Gulls in Salisbury since a 2-1 win on September 26, 1989. It was the season opener for both teams.

How It Happened
- Salisbury's Ethan Dolezal had the first shot on goal of the game at the 4:39 mark, but his shot was saved by Anthony Pinto.
- Washington took the lead in the 20th minute when the Shoremen drew a penalty kick following a Sea Gull foul in the box. Greg Adams put the penalty kick into the lower right corner at the 19:42 mark to put the Shoremen ahead 1-0.
- Alex Coster had the last shot of the first half in the 44th minute and nearly made it 2-0, but it sailed just over the crossbar as the visiting Shoremen took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
- The guests made it 2-0 just 6:49 into the second half when Cole Gifford stole the ball from a Salisbury defender, passed it to James Strine and shot blast from 20 yards out up the middle found the right side of the net.
- Washington made it 3-0 at the 79:33 mark when a ball off of a direct kick was misplayed by the Sea Gulls defense and Christopher Pinto got the loose ball and put it in the left side to cap the scoring from about 15 yards out for his first career score .
- Carter Chesney had Salisbury's last chance to break up the shutout in the 89th minute, but the shot went wide right.

- Washington had seven shots and took four corner kicks in the contest.

- The Sea Gulls took six shots in the contest and had three corners.
Notes
- The Shoremen are 13-2-0 in their past 15 season openers, dating back to 2006.
- Washington has won two of the past three over Salisbury as they won a 3-2 double overtime contest in 2017.
- It was WC's largest margin of win over Salisbury since a 4-1 win in 1982 and first blanking of the Sea Gulls since a 1-0 victory in 1987.
- The start of the game was delayed by nearly a half-hour due to lightning.
