Shoremen Open Fast in 70-63 Win over Bullets

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College opened the game on a 33-10 run and took a 38-22 halftime lead on its way to a 70-63 win over visiting Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's basketball action on Finnegan Court at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.  The Shoremen improve to 4-11 overall and 1-7 in the Centennial, while the Bullets fall to 9-6 and 5-4 respectively.

How It Happened
- With the score tied 2-2, Kedrick Frink put the Shoremen ahead for good 1:48 into the contest on a three-pointer to make it 5-2 and ignited an 11-0 spurt.  Ethan Schwantes capped the run with a pair of free throws to make it 13-2 with 15:51 to go in the first half.
- Washington would take its biggest lead of the day at 23 points on a Jason Zielinski free throw with 4:31 to go in the first at 33-10.
- Carl Schaller would can two free throws with 37 seconds left to finish off a 12-2 run to close the WC lead to 35-22.  However, Sam Corrao would answer with a triple seven seconds later to finish the first half scoring and give the hosts a 38-22 lead at halftime.
- In the second half, Avery Close got the Bullets within nine, 48-39, on a jumper with 11:38 to go and it was the first time since early in the first half the WC lead was in single digits.
- Frink put Washington ahead 56-42 on a three with 7:50 left before Gettysburg scored 17 of the next 25 points to trim the WC lead to 64-59 with 2:11 to go on a three by Elijah Williams.
- That's as close as the Bullets would get as the Shoremen canned six free throws in the last 1:36 to seal the win.

For The Shoremen (4-11, 1-7 CC)
- Frink (team-high 17 points and six rebounds), Corrao (16 points), Tray Wright (11 points, six boards and four assists), Dilyn Becker (four assists and three steals)
- The Shoremen shot 41% (22-for-54) from the floor, 37% (7-for-19) from three-point range and 76% (19-for-25) from the foul line. 
- WC outscored the guests in second chance points (14-9) and bench points (27-13).
- Washington had 13 turnovers in the game.

For Gettysburg (9-6, 5-4 CC)
- Close (game-bests of 27 points and 11 rebounds; two blocks), Williams (14 points and five assists), Schaller (five assists and three steals), Ryan McKeon (two rejections)   
- The Bullets shot 52% (25-for-48) from the floor, 25% (3-for-12) from three-point range and 59% (10-for-17) from the free throw stripe.    
- Gettysburg outscored WC in points in the paint (32-18) and points off turnovers (19-18).
- The Bullets had 15 turnovers in the contest, while holding a 33-31 edge in rebounds.

Notes
- Frink was named Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- Each team had four points in transition in the game.
