Red Devils Hold Off Shoremen, 78-69

Four Shoremen Score in Double Figures

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Visiting Dickinson jumped out to an 18-point first half lead and held off a rally by host Washington College by scoring the game's final seven points to come away with a 78-69 win on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference men's basketball action on Finnegan Court at Penny J. Fall Gymnasium.  The Red Devils are now 8-9 overall and 7-5 in the Centennial, while the Shoremen are 4-17 and 1-13 respectively.

How It Happened
- The Red Devils scored the game's first seven points in the opening 1:55, capping it on a three-pointer by Anthony Goeb.
- Dickinson would push its lead to as many as 18 at 28-10 with 8:47 left in the first half on a layup by Jack Tierney.
- Washington would answer with an 18-8 run to trim the lead to 36-28 with 2:04 left in the first on two Ethan Schwantes free throws.  Chris Bates would drain two from the line for Dickinson with 1:36 left to finish the first half scoring as the visitors took a 38-28 lead at halftime.
- In the second half, after giving up the opening hoop, the Shoremen scored nine of the next 11 points to trim the lead to 42-37 with 17:05 to go on a Kedrick Frink triple.
- Dickinson would push its lead back to 12 points on two occasions, the second time coming with 12:59 left in the game, 54-42, on a Goeb three.
- The Red Devils led 71-60 with 5:46 following a Goeb three-pointer before the Shoremen scored nine straight points to cut the lead to 71-69 with 3:54 to go on a jumper in the paint by Frink.
- After a Dickinson miss, Washington had a chance to tie or take the lead, but the Shoremen were whistled for an offensive foul.
- On the ensuing possession, Tierney was fouled and netted two free throws with 2:51 to go to push the lead to 73-69.  Tierney would extend the lead to seven 61 seconds later on a three to give the guests a 76-69 advantage.  The Red Devils would make more free throws in the final 51 seconds to close out the game.

For The Shoremen (4-17, 1-13 CC)
- Zielinski (18 points to lead Shoremen), Tray Wright (15 points, nine rebounds and five assists), Frink (14 points, eight boards and game-high four steals), Precieux Tshibangu (10 points and contest-high three blocks)
- The Shoremen shot 34% (22-for-65) from the floor, 27% (6-for-22) from three-point range and a season-best 91% (19-for-21) from the foul line.    
- WC outscored the Red Devils in points off turnovers (19-7) and transition points (9-4).
- Washington had 13 turnovers in the game.

For Dickinson (8-9, 7-5 CC)
- Goeb (game-high 20 points), Tierney (11 points and game-best 11 rebounds), Ryan Robinson (11 points, game-best seven assists and two steals), Bates (11 points and nine boards), Andrew Gostovich (10 points), Drew Haueisen (two steals)    
- The Red Devils shot 46% (26-for-56) from the floor, 32% (8-for-25) from three-point range and 69% (18-for-26) from the free throw stripe.    
- Dickinson outscored WC in second chance points (17-8), points in the paint (36-26) and bench points (18-10).
- The Red Devils had 15 turnovers in the contest, while holding a 44-34 edge in rebounds.

Notes
- Wright was named Goose Nation TV Shoreman Player of the Game.
- Prior to the game, the Shoremen honored Dallas Marshall '20 who became the 36th Shoremen to net 1,000 career points on February 22, 2020 at Dickinson.  Marshall scored 1,015 points in his four seasons with the team, was a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection, helped Washington make two Centennial Conference Tournaments and was named the Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year as a senior in men's basketball.
