Box Score 2 Drop 9-6 Game to St. Scholastics and Held Off by Stockton, 6-4
LEESBURG, Fla. – The Washington College softball team lost a pair of games to open its 10-game Florida trip on Sunday at Sleepy Hollow. The Shorewomen lost 9-6 to St. Scholastica and were downed by Stockton, 6-4. The Shorewomen are 2-2 on the season.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen jumped out to a 4-1 lead following a double by Lilly Cook that scored Maddy Kendall with two away in the top of the third inning.
- St. Scholastica would score four times with two outs to take a 6-4 lead in the last of the fourth. Heidi Stewart singled home Kari Breuer to cut it to 4-3 and Lauren Laviano gave the Saints their first lead on a home run to left center that also plated Stewart and Olivia Howe.
- The Saints added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 9-4. Sydney Plemel and Ainslind Dail scored on a two-out fielding error to make it 8-4 and Breuer scored on an infield hit by Howe to make it a five-run game.
- Megan Robbins would double in Alyssa Vieira with one out in the top of the sixth to cut it to 9-5 and she would score on a throwing error to cut the lead to three. However, the Saints would retire four of the last five hitters to come away with the win.
For The Shorewomen (2-1)
- Hitting: Vieira (2-for-4, run), Chloe Trefz (two runs), Robbins (two RBI)
- Pitching: Lexi Barnhart (loss 1-1, complete game, nine hits, nine runs, six earned, four walks, three strikeouts)
- Washington had nine hits, worked out three walks, had one reach on hit by pitch and left 10 on base.
- The Shorewomen's three errors led to three unearned St. Scholastica runs.
For St. Scholastica (4-1)
- Hitting: Laviano (3-for-4, home run, four RBI), Breuer (2-for-2, four runs)
- Pitching: Howe (win 3-0, complete game, nine hits, six runs, three earned, three walks, seven strikeouts)
- The Saints had nine hits, drew four walks and had two get on via hit by pitch while leaving eight stranded.
- St. Scholastica had three errors, leading to three unearned Washington runs.
Notes
- The Shorewomen were slated to play Maine-Farmington, but Maine-Farmington had travel issues and were replaced by St. Scholastica.
Stockton 6 Washington College 4
How It Happened
- Stockton capped a three-run top of the first inning on a Megan Dingam single to right field that scored Jenna Patterson.
- Washington got one back in the bottom of the first when Hannah Solge came home on a passed ball.
- Leading 4-2 entering the top of the fifth, the Ospreys scored a pair of runs to push the advantage to 6-2. With nobody out, Patterson doubled to left to plate Kayla Posten for a three-run lead and Patterson would score on a two-out error to make it a four run game.
- Cook would cut the Stockton lead to 6-4 as she singled to right to plate both Lexie Witmer and Maddy Kendall with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
- In the bottom of the seventh, Robbins reached on a two out error to get Barnhart up as the tying run for the Shorewomen. However, Stockton pitcher Stevie Unger got Barnhart to pop out to Posten at second to end the game.
For The Shorewomen (2-2)
- Hitting: Cook (two RBI), Robbins (two walks)
- Pitching: Gen Kozub (loss 1-1, complete game, nine hits, six runs, four unearned, zero walks, five strikeouts)
- Washington had three hits in the game, worked out four walks and left seven on base.
- The Shorewomen committed three errors in the game, leading to two runs for the Ospreys.
For Stockton (3-1)
- Hitting: Patterson (2-for-4, two RBI, two runs), Posten (2-for-4, three runs, RBI), Dingham and Brianna Segnello (2-for-3, RBI)
- Pitching: Stevie Unger (win 2-0, complete game, three hits, four runs, zero earned, four walks, seven strikeouts)
- The Ospreys had nine hits, worked out zero walks and left four on base.
- Stockton had three errors in the game, leading to two WC runs.
