Box Score 2 Comes Back to Best Western New England in Eight after Falling to Simpson in Opener
CLERMONT, Fla. – The Washington College softball team split a pair of games in its second day of games down in Florida on Monday at Legends Way. The Shorewomen scored six times in their last four trips to the plate to overcome a 3-0 deficit to win 6-5 over Western New England in eight innings after falling to 8-5 to Simpson in the first game of the day. The Shorewomen are 3-3 on the season.

How It Happened
- The Shorewomen tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning on a two-out single down the left field line by Alyssa Vieira to plate Lilly Cook.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Storm would take the lead for good with two runs on a pair of one out errors on the same play that allowed Mya Willey and Karlie Hill to score to make it 4-2 after five.
- Simpson scored four times in the bottom of the sixth that was highlighted by a Megan Crockett two run homer that scored Rylee Purvis ahead of her to make it 6-2. The Storm tacked on two more runs to extend the lead to 8-2.
- Washington got three runs in the top of the seventh with one out. Alyssa Vieira singled to center to plate Cook to cut it to 8-3. The next batter, Megan Robbins singled to right-center to chase in Hannah Solge and Alyssa Vieira to trim the lead to three. However, Brooke Fonley would retire the next two batters to end the game.
For The Shorewomen (2-1)
- Hitting: Vieira (3-for-4, two RBI, run), Solge (2-for-4, run), Cook (2-for-3, two runs), Robbins (two RBI)
- Pitching: Lexi Barnhart (loss 1-2, 4 2/3 innings, seven hits, eight runs, seven earned, seven walks, two strikeouts)
- Washington had 10 hits, worked out zero walks, had one reach on hit by pitch and left seven on base.
- The Shorewomen's five errors led to one unearned Simpson runs.
For Simpson (5-2)
- Hitting: Crockett (1-for-3, three RBI, home run), Hill (2-for-3, RBI, run), Olivia Allen (2-for-3, RBI)
- Pitching: Brooke Tucker (win 1-1, 1 1/3 innings, zero hits, zero runs, zero walks, one strikeout), Randie Richmond (4 2/3 innings, six hits, two runs, one earned, zero walks, three strikeouts)
- The Storm had nine hits and drew seven walks while leaving 11 stranded.
- Simpson had two errors, leading to one unearned Washington run.

How It Happened
- The Bears took a 3-0 lead with one away in the top of the fifth inning when Kailey Carrano singled to left field to plate Taylor Keegan to cap a two-run frame.
- Washington got one back in the bottom of the fifth when Chloe Trefz singled to left to plate Maddy Kendall.
- The Shorewomen would tie it at 3-3 on a one out home run by Barnhart that scored Vieira in front of her.
- In the top of the eighth, Keegan was placed on second per the international tiebreaker rule and scored on a double to center by Dina BiBlasio to give the Bears a 4-3 lead. Two hitters later, Lizzie Weston singled to right to plate DiBlasio to make it a two-run lead, 5-3. WC was able to keep it a two-run game by getting two force outs at the plate and a groundout.
- In the bottom of the eighth with runners at the corners, Vieira singled center to score Trefz to cut it to 5-4 and with Vieira taking second on the throw and the tying run on third in Solge. The next hitter, Robbins singled to right to score Solge and level it up at 5-5. After a walk to Barnhart to load the bases, Lexie Witmer singled to center to score Vieira to win the game.
For The Shorewomen (3-3)
- Hitting: Vieira (2-for-3, two runs, RBI), Trefz (2-for-3, RBI, run), Witmer (2-for-3, RBI), Barnhart (1-for-3, two RBI, home run)
- Pitching: Gen Kozub (win 2-1, complete game, 12 hits, five runs, four earned, two walks, one strikeout)
- Washington had 11 hits in the game, worked out two walks and left four on base.
- The Shorewomen committed zero errors in the game.
For Western New England (2-3)
- Hitting: DiBlasio and Weston (3-for-4, run, RBI), Carrano (2-for-4, RBI), Keegan (two runs)
- Pitching: Megan Beebe (loss 0-2, 1 2/3 innings, four hits, three runs, two earned, one walk, one strikeout), Ava Blanchard (5 1/3 innings, seven hits, three runs, three earned, one walk, four strikeouts)
- The Bears had 12 hits, worked two zero walks and had one get on via hit by pitch and left seven on base.
- Western New England had one error in the game, leading to zero WC runs.
