Shorewomen Capture Game Two, 4-2, After Falling in Opener, 8-1

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College and visiting Haverford split a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon at Washington College Softball Field.  The Shorewomen used a three-run bottom of the first inning in a 4-2 win in game two after the Fords came away with an 8-1 win in the opener.  The Shorewomen are 10-11 overall and 4-2 in the conference, while the Fords are 8-16 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial.

How It Happened
- Haverford scored three times in the top of the first inning to take the lead for good.  With one out, Madison Hujber worked out a bases loaded walk to score Carina Whiting for the game's first one.  The next hitter, Tessa Pearlstein singled up the middle to plate both Carley Parsons and Abby Marquis.
- The Fords added single runs in the top of the second and third innings to push the lead to 5-0.
- In the bottom of the third, Washington got a run back as Alyssa Vieira tripled down the right field line to score Lexie Witmer to cut the lead to 5-1.
- Haverford answered with three in the top of the fourth with Pearlstein hitting a two-run homer to left to cap the scoring with one out that also plated Mia Kessinger.

For The Shorewomen (9-11, 3-2 CC)
- Hitting: Witmer (3-for-4, run)
- Pitching: Lexi Barnhart (loss 4-7, complete game, 11 hits, eight runs, five earned, seven walks, six strikeouts)
- Washington committed two errors in game one, leading to three Haverford runs.
- The Shorewomen had seven hits and drew three walks in the game, while leaving 10 on base.

For Haverford (8-15, 3-2 CC)
- Hitting: Pearlstein (3-for-4, home run, four RBI), Marquis (three walks, two runs), Parsons (two runs), Phoebe May (1-for-2, run, two walks), Maddie Etheridge (2-for-4)
- Pitching: Maya Casey (win 5-5, five innings, five hits, one run, one earned, three walks, one strikeout)
- Haverford had one error in the opener, leading to zero runs for WC.
-The Fords had 11 hits, drew seven walks and one get on via hit by pitch, while stranding 12 on base.

How It Happened
- In the bottom half of the first, the Shorewomen scored three times to take a fast lead.  Hannah Solge scored on a one out fielder's choice for the game's opening run.  With two outs, Barnhart scored on a fielding error to make it 2-0 and two hitters later, Gen Kozub helped her own cause with a bases loaded walk to drive in Megan Robbins to make it 3-0.
- Haverford got one run back in the top of the second as May doubled to right with two away to score Hujber to trim the lead to 3-1.
- The Shorewomen restored their three run lead in the bottom of the fourth when Alexa Draper scored on a fielder's choice that made it 4-1.
- Haverford cut it to 4-2 on a two-out base hit up the middle by May that scored Pearlstein.
- In the top of the seventh, the Fords got the leadoff hitter on as Etheridge singled down the left field line and got the tying run to the plate.  However, Kozub would retire the next three Haverford hitters to end the game.

For The Shorewomen (10-11, 4-2 CC)
- Hitting: Robbins (2-for-4, run), Chloe Trefz (2-for-3), Vieira (2-for-4), Barnhart (two RBI), Solge (three walks, run)
- Pitching: Kozub (win 6-4, complete game, six hits, two runs, two earned, two walks, two strikeouts)
- The Shorewomen had 10 hits in the game and drew four walks as they left 12 on base.
- WC had three errors in the field, leading to zero unearned runs for the guests.

For Haverford (8-16, 3-3 CC)
- Hitting: May (2-for-3, two RBI), Parsons (2-for-4)
- Pitching: Casey (loss 5-6, three-plus innings, five hits, four runs, two earned, three walks, two strikeouts)
- The Fords had six hits with the aid of two walks and left seven on base.
- Haverford committed two errors in the field, leading to two unearned runs for Washington.
