Box Score Haverford, Pa. – The No. 28 ranked Haverford Fords defeated the Washington College Shoremen, 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon at Bramall Courts. The Shoremen drop to 9-6 (4-2 Centennial Conference) while the hosts improve to 10-5 (5-1 C.C.).
The Shoremen won two of the three doubles points, however, Haverford took all six singles matches.
Senior Koby Bonta and junior Landon Strober teamed up to defeat Patrick Kley/Adam Chow, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Ryohei Kawai paired with freshman Brady Burns for an 8-4 triumph over Justin Minvera/Jason Edmonds at the No. 3 spot. George Jiang/Stefan Johnson edged junior Karl Hoegstedt/senior Andrew Smith, 8-7 (14-12) at the No. 1 slot.
Hoegstedt, the reigning Centennial Player of the Week and three-time recipient, lost a heartbreaker at the No. 1 singles spot against George Jiang. Hoegstedt dropped the opening set in a 7-6 tiebreak (7-4) and then blanked Jiang by a 6-0 count in the second set to even things up. However, Jiang won a third-set tie-break by a score of 10-7.
No. 2 Strober, No. 3 Kawai, No. 4 Bonta, No. 5 Burns, and No. 6 fresman Aaradith Ravichandran all lost in straight sets.
The Shoremen will host Salisbury on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
