Burns Clinches Win at No. 5 Singles

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Host Washington College, ranked 14th in the Atlantic South Region, won two of three in doubles and split singles in a 5-4 win over visiting Salisbury, ranked 12th in the Atlantic South region, in non-conference men's tennis action at Schottland Tennis Center on Saturday.

Doubles
- The No. 1 doubles was the first match to finish and Salisbury's tandem of Brad Pappalardo and Ginaluca Beaujon, ranked 13th in the region, topped WC's Karl Hoegstedt and Andrew Smith, ranked 11th in the region, 8-5 in the first doubles match to finish.
- In No. 3 doubles the team of Ryohei Kawai and Brady Burns evened the match for the Shoremen with an 8-4 victory over the Sea Gulls' Russell Willenborg and Gavin Reagle won 8-4 over Ryohei Kawai and Brady Burns
- Trailing 7-2 at No. 1 doubles, Washington's duo of Koby Bonta and Landon Strober rallied to defeat Salisbury's pair of Christopher Catan and Mitchell Desman, 8-7, prevailing 7-5 in the tiebreak in the last doubles match to end to give the Shoremen a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.

Singles
- Hoegstedt, ranked eighth in the Atlantic South Region, swept Pappalardo, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to give WC a 3-1 lead.
- Beaujon won the next match to finish for Salisbury at No. 2 singles as he topped Strober, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
- Kawai prevailed at No. 4 singles in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), over Catan to put the Shoremen ahead 4-2. 
- Willenborg downed Bonta, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3, at No. 3 singles in the fourth singles match to conclude and trimmed the lead to 4-3.
- Burns would clinch the match for the Shoremen at No. 5 singles as he bested Regale in a comeback victory, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
- In No. 6 singles, Salisbury's Jhaydan Pappas rallied to edge Washington's Aaradith Ravichandran, 6-7 (12-14), 6-3, 6-4, in the final match to finish on the day.

Notes
- Washington improves to 10-6 overall, while Salisbury falls to 7-11 on the season.
- With today's win, the Shoremen reach double figures in wins for the first time since 2017 when they went 12-6.
