Box Score 2 McDaniel Wins 5-1 in First Game and Rallies in Second Contest, 4-2
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Host McDaniel captured both ends of a Centennial Conference softball doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon from visiting Washington College. The Green Terror captured game one, 5-1, and rallied from 2-0 down in the second game with a four-run last of the sixth inning to prevail 4-2. The Green Terror improve to 16-19 overall and 9-5 in the Centennial, while the Shorewomen drop to 16-15 and 8-6 respectively.
McDaniel 5 Washington College 1 (Game 1)
How It Happened
- The Green Terror scored a pair of two out runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. Hannah Raygor doubled to left field to plate Evie Craig for the game's first run and the next batter, Mattie Whalen, doubled to left as well to play Raygor for a two-run lead.
- Washington got its lone run of the game on a two-out base hit to left by Maddy Kendall that scored Lexi Barnhart to cut the lead to 2-1. On the play, Chloe Trefz tried to take third base was thrown out by Angelina Tyler in left to end the inning.
- In the last of the fourth the Green Terror plated a pair to take a 4-1 lead. With nobody out, Whalen doubled down the left field line to score Megan Horesey to restore the two-run lead at 3-1. The next batter, Tyler, hit a sacrifice fly to center to plate Raygor and give the hosts a three-run cushion.
- Horsey would cap the scoring on a two-out single up the middle to drive home Kylie Sears to make it 5-1.
For The Shorewomen (16-14, 8-5 CC)
- Hitting: Lilly Cook and Alyssa Vieira (2-for-3), Hannah Solge (1-for-2, walk)
- Pitching: Lexi Barnhart (loss 8-9, complete game, seven hits, five runs, five earned, one walk, five strikeouts)
- Washington committed zero errors in game one.
- The Shorewomen had eight hits and drew four walks in the game, while leaving six on base.
For McDaniel (15-19, 8-5 CC)
- Hitting: Raygor (2-for-3, two runs, RBI), Whalen (2-for-3, two RBI), Horsey (2-for-3, RBI, run),
- Pitching: Krista Waller (win 6-5, four innings, six hits, one run, one earned, one walk, two strikeouts), Hannah Costa (save 1, three innings, two hits, zero runs, three walks, zero strikeouts)
- McDaniel committed zero errors in the opener.
- The Green Terror had seven hits and worked out one walk and had one reach on hit by pitch, while stranding four on base.
McDaniel 4 Washington College 2 (Game 2)
How It Happened
- The Shorewomen took advantage of the McDaniel throwing error with two outs in the top of the fourth as Kendall reached on the bad throw to allow Vieira to score the game's opening run. The next hitter, Gen Kozub singled up the middle to plate Trefz to make it 2-0.
- The lead would last until the bottom of the sixth when McDaniel scored four times to take the lead as all four came after two were retired. Paytyn Hazelton would tie the game at 2-2 on a double to right-center that scored Makayla Calamita and Horsey. The next hitter, Raygor singled through the left side to score Julia Dimmick, who ran for Hazelton, to put the Green Terror ahead 3-2. Following a pitching change by Washington, Megan Cappadora singled to left to drive in Raygor to cap the four-run rally and give the hosts a two-run lead heading into the seventh.
- Washington would get the tying run to the plate in the top of the seventh following a two-out single through the left side by Vieira, but McDaniel's struck out Robbins looking to end the contest and the twinbill.
For The Shorewomen (16-15, 8-6 CC)
- Hitting: Vieira (3-for-4)
- Pitching: Kozub (loss 8-6, 5 2/3 innings, eight hits, four runs, four earned, zero walks, four strikeouts),
- The Shorewomen had six hits in the game, drew one walk and had one get on by a hit by pitch as they left eight on base.
- WC had two errors in the field, but didn't lead to any unearned runs for McDaniel.
For McDaniel (16-19, 9-5 CC)
- Hitting: Raygor (3-for-3, run, RBI, Whalen (3-for-3), Hazelton (two RBI)
- Pitching: Costa (win 6-4, complete game, six hits, two runs, zero earned, one walk, six strikeouts)
- The Green Terror had nine hits, worked out two walks and had one reach via hit by pitch as they left six on base.
- McDaniel committed two errors in the field, leading to two unearned runs.

- All six runs in the second game came with two outs.
