Shorewomen Punch Ticket to Centennial Tournament in 6-3 Victory over Bears

White Clinches Match for Washington

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Visiting Washington College, ranked 18th in the Atlantic South Region, secured the fifth and final sport in upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament with its 6-3 win over host Ursinus on Wednesday night at the Floy Lewis Bakes Center in Centennial Conference women's tennis action.  The Shorewomen will travel to four seed Franklin & Marshall next Wednesday in the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament with the time to be determined.

Doubles
- The Bears won at No. 3 doubles in the first match to finish as the tandem of Claire Burke and Shannon Stewart won 8-1 over the Shorewomen's Bin Nguyen and Katie Ruppert.
- Washington would level doubles at 1-1 as the team of Alisha White and María Cristina Diaz-Nazario topped Ursinus' duo of Caitlin Vinsonhaler and Avery Samer, 8-2 at No. 2 doubles.
- The Shorewomen's pair of Irene Meng and Piper Sartison won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, over Allie Armour and Maddie Russell to give the visitors a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

Singles
- Sartison was the first to finish in singles at No. 3 as she bested Burke, 7-5, 6-1, to give Washington a 3-1 lead.
- Diaz-Nazario handled Vinsonhaler, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 singles to put the Shorewomen on the brink of victory, 4-1.
- No. 2 singles finished next and White won the match and a spot in the conference tournament with a 6-2, 6-2, triumph over Russell.
- Meng, ranked 23rd in the Atlantic South, rallied after losing the first set 7-6 to Armour to prevail 7-5 and 1-0 (10-1) in the tiebreak.
- The Bears got their first win in singles at No. 5 as Samer topped Nguyen, 8-5.
- In the last match to finish, Ava Compagnoni downed Ruppert, 8-4, at No. 6.

Notes
- The Shorewomen are 10-6 on the season, while the Bears are 9-8.  WC is 4-4 in the conference, while Ursinus is 3-5 in the Centennial.
- Ursinus' Avery Samer is the sister of Ella Samer '21, who was a four-year member of Shorewomen Tennis.
- Washington will be competing in its 12th Centennial Conference Tournament which has been in existence since 2006.  It is the team's first trip to the conference tournament since 2018.
