Box Score 2 CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College softball team dropped two games against the No. 2 ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls, 8-0 and 9-1, in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Shorewomen fall to 16-17 while the visitors improve to 34-4.
Game 1, Salisbury 8, Shorewomen 0 (5 innings)
How It Happened
-The Sea Gulls scored three runs in the opening frame off freshman starter Gen Kozub. Pitcher Lindsay Windsor doubled to left field for the opening run of the contest. Designated player Lauren Meyers drilled a two-run double to left center to account for the other two runs.
-The visitors made it 4-0 in the top of the fourth as shortstop Natalie Paoli delivered an RBI single that just eluded second baseman Megan Robbins in short right field.
- Salisbury put the game out of reach with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Third baseman Ellen Stockman recorded an RBI single and center fielder Abby Mace lofted a three-run homer to left field.
For the Shorewomen
-Sophomore third baseman Hannah Solge and junior catcher Lexie Witmer (double) had one hit apiece.
Pitching
-Kozub fell to 8-7 after allowing six earned runs on seven hits over 2.2 innings.
For the Sea Gulls
Hitting
-Mace went 3-for-3 (3 runs) with a homer and 3 RBI.
-Meyers drove in a pair of runs with a double.
Pitching
-Windsor allowed just two hits over 5.0 innings to improve to 14-0.
Game 2, Salisbury 9, Shorewomen 1
How It Happened
-The Sea Gulls jumped on sophomore starter Lexi Barnhart for five runs (3 unearned) on five hits in the top of the first inning. Two runs scored on wild pitches and another scored on a passed ball. Left fielder Emily Challender recorded an RBI single and another run scored on an error.
- The Shorewomen got a run back in the bottom of the first as senior center fielder Alyssa Vieira smoked an RBI double to right center to score freshman shortstop Chloe Trefz, who had walked.
- The visitors widened their lead to 7-1 in the top of the fourth as Paoli delivered a two-run single through the left side.
- Salisbury made it 8-1 in the fifth as Mace produced an RBI single.
- The Sea Gulls scored the final run of the game in the top of the seventh on an error.
For the Shorewomen
Hitting
-Witmer, Veira (double, RBI), and Robbins each had a hit.
Pitching
-Barnhart fell to 8-10 after yielding five earned runs on 14 hits over 7.0 innings.
For the Sea Gulls
Hitting
-Mace went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
-Windsor was 3-for-4 with an RBI.
-Paoli drove in two runs.

-Sheats improved to 14-2 as she allowed an earned run on just a hit over 4.0 innings.
-Nicole Ortega recorded her second save as she tossed the final 3.0 scoreless innings with six strikeouts.
