Box Score Glassboro, NJ – The host Rowan Profs scored the lone goal of the contest with 15:37 remaining in the opening half en route to a non-conference victory over the Washington College men's soccer team on Tuesday evening at the Rowan Soccer Complex.
 
The Shoremen have lost three straight contests, all by a single goal, and now stand at 1-3-2 on the season while Rowan improves to 5-3-1.
 
How it Happened
- Rowan broke through with the only goal of the contest on a first-half tally by senior forward Chad Yates. Senior midfielder Luke Yates initiated the game-winning play when he carried the ball down the left side of the field and played a through ball deep into the near corner for freshman forward Johnny Troiano. Troiano caught up to the pass and immediately sent a cross that snuck through two defenders into the left corner of the box. Chad Yates collected the feed, dribbled around a defender and surprised Washington College goalkeeper Anthony Pinto (Matawan, N.J., Christian Brothers Academy) with a well-struck five-yard laser over the netminder's left shoulder and into the center of the cage.
- Washington College had a golden opportunity to even the contest in the 35' off a well-executed set-piece but were unable to capitalize. Senior midfielder Harrison Malone (Media, Pa., Episcopal Academy) sent a gorgeous 25-yard free kick into the box directly to the head of junior defender Chris Comber (Chester Springs, Pa., Downingtown East). Comber leaped high into the air and banged a header off the center of the crossbar. The ball bounced directly to sophomore defender Sebastien Linares (Reisterstown, Md., Loyola Blakefield) but his header from the doorstep also went off the upper right corner of the post, although the Shoremen argued that the ball hit the back of the net first.
- The Shoremen had another quality chance with 29:34 left in the second half as senior forward Eric Gwadz (Washington, D.C., Woodrow Wilson) sent a perfect cross from the left side of the box into the center for an open Ben Strine (Hockessin, Del., Salesianum School). The senior, however, pushed a low attempt just wide right from point-blank range as goalie Chay Kaplan was caught out of position.

Notes

- Senior midfielder Cole Gifford (Delran, N.J., Delran) attempted a team-high two shots.
- Rowan has now defeated the Shoremen in back-to-back seasons as the Profs took a 3-2 decision in a game played at Haverford in 2021.
