Box Score 2 FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Washington College men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday to open its dual match season at the Tennis Center hosted by Mary Washington. In the first match of the day, the Shoremen fell to Stevens, 6-3, and in the final match were edged by host #18 Mary Washington, 5-4.
Stevens 6 Washington College 3
Doubles
- The Ducks won two of three in doubles to grab a 2-1 lead. Stevens' duo of
Max-William Kanz and
Sebastian Wroe topped
Christian Gruyon and
Landon Strober, 8-4, in the first match to finish at No. 3. Washington's duo of
Karl Hoegstedt and
Andre-Remi Jakobi recorded an 8-6 win at No. 1 over the Ducks' tandem of
Olof Persson and
Troy Zhang.
Aashi Kulakami and
Vivek Harinarayan topped the Shoremen's
Jack Fanshawe and
Ryohei Kawai, 8-4, at No. 2.
Singles
- Hoegstedt won at the top flight in the first singles to finish, 6-1, 6-3, over Harinarayan. Hoegstedt is ranked 35th nationally and ninth in the Atlantic South region.
- Kanz gave Stevens a 3-2 lead with a 6-2, 6-4, win over Strober at No. 4.
- Fanshawe would sweep Zhang, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 5 to level the match at 3-3.
- Kulakarni prevailed in three sets at No. 2, 6-2, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2, over Jakobi to give the Ducks a 4-3 advantage.

Andrew He would clinch the match for Stevens with a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-0, victory over Kawai.
- In the last match to finish, No. 6, Persson overcame a first set loss to edge
Aaradith Ravichandran, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.
Notes
- Stevens, ranked 10th in the Atlantic South Region, is 1-0 on the season, while Washington drops to 0-1.

Doubles
- The 18th ranked Eagles won two of three in doubles. The Mary Washington tandem of
Brock Ladehoff and
Peter Leese won at No. 3 over WC's Strober and
Christian Gruyon, 8-2. Next to finish was No. 2 doubles with
Nick Spera and
Artis Hart of the Eagles edging Kawai and Fanshawe 8-7. The Shoremen got their own 8-7 win by Hoegstedt and Jakobi at top flight doubles over the Eagles' duo of
Rishi Charan Shankar and
Andrew Watson.
Singles
- Strober won at No. 3 in the first singles match to finish over Spera, 6-2, 6-4.
- Hoegstedt would give WC a 3-2 as he topped Charan Shankar, ranked 20th nationally and fifth in the region, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1.
- Leese would give Mary Washington its first win in singles at No. 5 as he downed Kawai, 6-0, 7-5.

Jacob Pfab would give the hosts a 4-3 lead as he rallied from a 6-4 loss in the opening set to Gruyon to win the next two sets, 6-2, 6-3, respectively at No. 6.
- Watson would clinch the win for the Eagles as he edged Jakobi in three sets, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, at No. 2.
- Fanshawe would win the final match to finish at No. 4 as he came back from a 6-4 opening set loss to Hart to win the next two sets by scores of 6-0, 6-3.
Notes
- The #18 Eagles, who are ranked fourth in the region, are now 2-0 on the season, while the Shoremen fall to 0-2.
- Mary Washington is named for the mother of George Washington.
