ORLANDO, Fla. – Senior Karl Hoegstedt (West Chester, Pa./B. Reed Henderson) had his quest for the NCAA Singles Championship in Division III Men's Tennis come to an end on Friday in the quarterfinal round against Williams' Matthew Kandel at the USTA National Campus.  By virtue of his first round win yesterday, Hoegstedt becomes the first All-American from Washington since Adam Cranford '11 in 2011 and 23rd in program history.  In late Thursday night NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Doubles Championship action, Hoegstedt and freshman Andre-Remi Jakobi (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca al Mare) fell in their first match in the Round of 16 to Case Western Reserve's Diego Maza and Chris Provenzano.

Quote From Karl Hoegstedt
"It was an absolute honor to not only compete amongst the top 32 players in the nation, but to make it to the final eight.  It was not something I expected to do as the first alternate, but I am extremely happy with the way I competed this week.  Big thanks to Washington College, the Centennial Conference and the NCAA for this experience."

Quote From Head Coach Constantine Ananiadis
"It feels great to have WAC back at the national level where it belongs.  Lots of credit goes to Oliver (Reynolds) and Mike (Herman) for working as hard as they did the last few years to re-build the program.  Lots of hard work of course still remains ahead.  But this tournament and Karl's performance was a step in the right direction."

Notes
- Hoegstedt concludes his season at 17-6 in singles and is 33-12 in his two seasons with the Shoremen in singles competition.  Hoegstedt and Jakobi went 9-7 this season as a doubles tandem.
