Rawa’s Third Place Finish in 100 Backstroke Highlights Shoremen’s Weekend at F&M Invitational

Team Places Eighth out of 10 Squads

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Washington College men's swim team competed at the 2024 Franklin & Marshall Invitational held Friday night through Sunday evening at the Kunkel Aquatics Center.  The Shoremen finished eighth overall with 588.5 points in an invite that comprised of schools from all three NCAA Divisions.

Shoremen Individuals That Scored Points
- Nathan Rawa on Saturday was third in the 100-yard backstroke (51.10) and sixth in the 100 butterfly (50.93).  He improved on his fourth fastest time in program history in the 100 backstroke by .06.  On Sunday, the sophomore was fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:53.97).
- Chase Hensen placed seventh on Saturday in the 100 breaststroke (58.13) and ninth in the 100 individual medley (54.71).  On Sunday, the senior was 14th in the 200 breaststroke (2:12.11).
- Connor Kravitz-Yoffee was seventh in the 1650 freestyle on Sunday with a time of 16:50.59 as he slides up two spots to sixth all-time at Washington.
- Zach Affeldt on Sunday was eighth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.80.  On Saturday, he was 10th in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:13.90 and 24th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.31.  On Friday, he was 19th in the 200 individual medley (1:57.93).
- Justin Fitzpatrick was 14th in the 100 butterfly (51.57) on Saturday.
- Gabe Summa tied for 18th in the 100 backstroke (54.32) on Saturday and 23rd in the 200 backstroke (2:03.25) on Sunday.
- Patrick Downes placed 19th in the 1650 freestyle on Sunday (17:40.32).
- William Schmidt landed 20th in the 100 backstroke in 54.34 and 24th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.24.
- Shane Brace on Sunday was 21st in the 200 butterfly in 2:01.16 and was 22nd in the 100 individual medley touching the pad in 56.12.
- Ethan Cronin was 24th in the 1650 freestyle on Sunday (19:24.72).

Shoremen Relays That Scored Points
- The 400-yard medley relay quartet of Rawa, Hensen, Fitzpatrick and James Hackett on Friday night took sixth with a time of 3:27.34.  Finishing 12th was Summa, Affeldt, Niles Commodore and Brody Salpeter (3:35.99). 
- In the 200 freestyle relay, the team of Rawa, Schmidt, Lee and Hensen finished in ninth place in 1:25.93 on Friday night.  In the relay Rawa became the eighth fastest Shoreman Swimmer in the 50 freestyle with a leadoff time of 21.36.  Earning 15th with a time of 1:28.94 was Hackett, Salpeter, Commodore and Fitzpatrick.
- On Saturday, the 800 freestyle relay team of Affeldt, Schmidt, Hackett and Kravitz-Yoffee earned 12th (7:16.65) and the quartet of Salpeter, Mike Lee, Downes and Tyler Wright placed 15th (7:34.03).
- On Saturday evening, two relay teams scored points in the 200 medley relay with a eighth place result from Rawa, Hensen, Fitzpatrick and Schmidt (1:34.29) and the squad of Summa, Affeldt, Commodore and Lee were 16th (1:36.53).
- On Sunday night in the 400 freestyle relay, the foursome of Rawa, Schmidt, Hensen and Hackett were 11th (3:12.16) and the quad Affeldt, Lee, Fitzpatrick and Salpeter were 16th (3:16.66).

Notes
- Bloomsburg won the invite with 1,402 points, 66 points ahead of second place Rowan (1,336).  Mount St. Mary's was third (1,266) and finishing fourth was host Franklin & Marshall (1,013.5).  Fifth through 10th were Mary Washington (856), Swarthmore (732), Shippensburg (656), Washington College (588.5) and Kutztown (146.5).
- In individual events, swimmers who finished first through eighth were in the A Final, ninth through 16th in the B Final and 17th through 24th in the C Final.  Swimmers were placed in each final based on preliminary time.  The only events that were an exception to this were the 100 individual medley and 1650 freestyle where there was just a final.
