Hensen, Affeldt and Rawa Secure All-Centennial Conference Honors

Hackett Picked to All-Sportsmanship Team

LANCASTER, Pa. – Three Washington College men's swimmers earned All-Centennial Conference honors based on their performances at the 2025 Centennial Conference Swimming Championships last weekend at Franklin & Marshall.  Senior Chase Hensen (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) earned first team honors in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke events, while senior Zach Affeldt (Savage, Minn./Burnsville) and sophomore Nathan Rawa (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) nabbed honorable mention in the 200 breaststroke and 100 backstroke respectively.

Gold medalists at the conference championships earn first team All-Centennial honors and silver medalists earn second team All-Centennial honors in both individual events and relays.  Individual bronze medalists are named All-Centennial honorable mention.  Prior to the 2022-23 academic year, only gold and silver medalists garnered All-Centennial recognition.

Hensen won the gold medal in the 100-yard breaststroke with a program record time of 55.38, breaking his own mark of 56.03 set in the preliminary round of the event, becoming the first Washington swimmer to win gold outright in five years. Hensen would sweep the breaststroke events by winning the 200-yard event for his second gold on the championships with a time of 2:03.50 and improved his second place best time at WC by .51. He is now a three-time All-Centennial selection as he was honorable mention in 2023 in the 100 breaststroke. The senior is the only first team selection that is no from Gettysburg or Swarthmore this weekend on both the men's and women's side.

Affeldt's time of 2:04.02 in the 200 breaststroke allowed him to capture the bronze in the event for the second straight year and third time in four years. As a sophomore in 2023, he won silver in the event. The senior is now a three-time all-conference swimmer, all coming in the 200 breaststroke as he was second team in 2023 and honorable mention each of the past two years.

Rawa registered his all-conference spot and the bronze 100 backstroke with a school best time of 50.34.  The sophomore is a first-time All-Centennial selection.

The Centennial Conference also announced its All-Sportsmanship Team for men's swimming and sophomore James Hackett (Brielle, N.J./Manasquan) was the Shoremen's representative on the team.  Each Centennial Conference member institution was permitted to nominate on student-athlete who exemplifies the best in sportsmanship for the All-Sportsmanship Team.  Nominations were submitted by the head coaches.  Hackett, who was a part of the school record 400-yard medley relay team at the championships with a time of 3:22.16, is a first-time honoree on the team.

Under head coach Philip Quick, the Shoremen have had 13 all-conference selections as it has been three first team recipients, one second team honoree and nine have landed honorable mention status.
