BRONX, N.Y. – The Washington College sailing team traveled to New York City this weekend to race in the New York Maritime Open hosted by SUNY Maritime. The team finished 11th out of 13 teams at the two-day regatta held in the Bronx.
New York Maritime Open
- Senior skipper
Joseph Bonacci and freshman crew
Lucy Sunderland guided the squad to a fourth-place finish in the A Division with 76 points. The duo had three third places as they competed in 14 races. Webb Institute won the A Division with 20 points.
- In the B Division, freshmen, skipper
Imogene Nuss and crew
Ethan Rower came in 12th place with 155 points. Webb Institute captured the B Division with 51 points, beat Hobart/William Smith on a tiebreaker.
- Webb Institute won the regatta with 71 points, 49 points better than Texas who had 120. Washington College had 231 points.
Notes
- On Saturday, the rain bands from Helene made conditions overcast with on and off drizzle that created damp, but breezy conditions. Winds were from the northeast and north-northeast at eight knots with gusts into the upper teens in the afternoon. The wind shifted to an easterly wind toward the end of the day directly under the Throgs Neck Bridge. Nine races were completed.Â
- On Sunday, the wind was 8-12 knots from the northeast. Temperatures were in the upper 60s with less drizzle than Saturday but with overcast skies and heavy fog.
