Newport News, VA– The Washington College Sailing team finishes 11th of 15 teams in the Luce Regatta. The Shoremen and Shorewomen earned a team total of 306 points, 27 points behind 10th place.
How It Happened
Luce Regatta
Saturday, October 18:
Stable winds out of the South East 5-10 knots allowed us to complete 4 races in each division. As the clouds broke the wind began to shift slowly to the West. Once settled into the West we finished off the day with 2 races with about 5 knots of breeze.
Sunday, October 19:
A consistent southerly of 15 knots, with gusts to 25, led to great racing where we were able to complete the last 9 races of the regatta.
- There were 15 total races, Washington Sailing entered an A and a B division. The A division earned a score of 157 with the B division earning a 149.
- The best finish for the A division was in race one where they earned third. The best for division B was race three where they earned fourth.
- Alex Salzberg and Imogene Nuss split the roll of skipper for division A, Salzberg in races 1-8, and 11-15, and Nuss in races 9 and 10. Crew for division A was Rachel Morgen for races 1-8, Ethan Rower for races 9-10 and 13-15, and Soledad Fintel in races 11 and 12.
- For division B, Austin Latimer was skipper for all 15 races and Nora Ciak was crew for races 1-14 with Rower serving as Crew for the 15th race.
