Box Score Naymick Tallies Double-Double in Pride of
Maryland Win
TOWSON, MD – Sophomore forward Adam
Naymick (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) tallied a
career-high 17 points and brought down a career-best 12 rebounds
and senior guard/forward Andrew Chambers (Williamsport,
MD/St. Maria Goretti) tossed in a game-high 18 points to
lead the Washington College men's basketball team past Stevenson,
83-62, this afternoon in a consolation semifinal game of the Pride
of Maryland Championship presented by M&T Bank at Goucher
College. The Shoremen improved to 1-1 with the win, while Stevenson
fell to 0-2 with the loss.
The Shoremen held a 36-30 lead at halftime and
started the second half on a 16-6 run to take a 52-36 lead on a
jumper by Naymick with 13:53 left in the game. The Shoremen led by
at least 12 points the rest of the way, taking their biggest lead
on a free throw by freshman forward Tony Hawkins (Mt.
Ephraim, NJ/Haddon Township) with 2:47 remaining which
gave Washington a 27-point cushion at 81-54.
Washington shot 38% from the field in the game to
Stevenson's 36% and only turned the ball over one less time (21 to
22). The big differences in the game were at the free-throw line,
where the Shoremen were 23-of-27 to the Mustangs' 14-of-22, and on
the boards, where Washington held a commanding 57-32 advantage. The
Shoremen corralled 20 offensive rebounds in the win.
Naymick's 17-point, 12-board performance was his
first career double-double. He was 6-7 from the field and 5-of-6
from the free-throw line and did all of his damage in just 16
minutes of playing time. Chambers, meanwhile, was 6-of-9 from the
floor and 6-of-7 at the line for his 18 points. He also collected
six rebounds. Senior forward Alan Kines (Towson,
MD/Towson) added 12 points and six boards, while sophomore
guard Sal Schittino (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola
Blakefield) scored 12 points by sinking four of his nine
three-point field-goal attempts. Sophomore guard/forward
Kevin Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti)
netted 11 points for Washington.
Broderick Hill scored 11 points
for the Mustangs, while Jason Scroggins fired in
10. Keith Holtmann led Stevenson in rebounding
with nine and blocked three shots to share game-high honors with
teammate Matt Leddy.
The Shoremen will play the winner of today's
McDaniel-Goucher game tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in the tournament's
fifth-place game. Stevenson will play the loser of the
McDaniel-Goucher game at noon in the seventh-place game.
