Box Score Chambers Nets Game-Best 22 Points in
Triumph
STEVENSON, MD – Senior guard/forward
Andrew Chambers (Williamsport, MD/St. Maria
Goretti) scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the
second half, along with a game-best four steals, as visiting
Washington College bested host Stevenson University, 75-58, on
Tuesday evening in non-conference men's basketball action at
Student Union Gymansium. The Shoremen improve to 2-2 on the season
while the Mustangs fall to 0-5 on the season.
This was the second meeting in four days between
the two squads as WC scored an 83-62 win on Saturday in the Pride
of Maryland Championship presented by M&T Bank.
Washington came out strong taking a 14-3 lead in
the first 5:56 of the game which was capped on a pair of free
throws by sophomore guard Doug Holcombe (Shawnee,
NJ/Medford). However, Stevenson was to go on a 25-13 run
to take its lone lead of the game at 28-27 on a layup by
Zach Cooke with 1:35 left in the first half. The
Shoremen would score the last hoop of the half on a lay-in by
sophomore forward Adam Naymick (Hanover, PA/Delone
Catholic) with 36 seconds left in the half put WC back up
29-28 and that would be the score at intermission.
The Shoremen opened up the second half on a 6-2 run
to take a 35-30 lead, with two quick baskets coming from Chambers.
With the guests leading 45-40 with 12:24 left in the contest,
Washington went on a 16-4 run to take control of the contest and
lead 61-49 with 6:50 left in the game following a jumper by
Chambers. During the spurt, Chambers scored six of the 16 WC
points.
Washington would lead in double-digits the rest of
the way and the closest the Mustangs would come to the Shoremen was
10 points. WC built its lead up to as many 18 points at 73-55 with
2:58 to go on a layup by sophomore guard/forward Kevin
Breslin (Hagerstown, MD/St. Maria Goretti).
Senior forward Alan Kines (Towson,
MD/Towson) added 13 points and eight rebounds for the
Shoremen, while Naymick chipped in with 10 points to give the
guests three double-figure scorers on the night. Naymick missed his
second double-double of the year by one rebound as he grabbed a
game-topping nine boards.
For the Mustangs, Greg Collins
matched Chambers for game-high in points with 22 on 9-for-13
shooting. Keith Holtman had a team-best seven
rebounds and led all players with four blocks.
Washington shot 46% in the win, while holding
Stevenson to 35%. The Shoremen held a edges in boards (47-35),
fast-break points (13-7) and points in the pain (42-30), while the
Mustangs had a 24-22 edge in points off turnovers.
Washington returns to action on Wednesday, December
2 at Haverford in the Centennial Conference opener for the
Shoremen. Tip time is 7:30 p.m.
