Box Score Kile Totals 16 Points, 19 Rebounds in
Victory
CHESTERTOWN, MD – Freshman center
Erin Kile (Benton, PA/Benton) posted her first
career double-double with career-highs of 16 points and 19
rebounds, also a game-high, along with blocking a game-best three
shots as host Washington College downed visiting Eastern Shore
rival Salisbury, 71-62, on Monday evening at the Cain Athletic
Center. The Shorewomen improve to 5-5 on the season, while the Sea
Gulls fall to 5-4.
Washington, who never trailed in the contest, took
the lead for good at 12-10 with 12:43 to go in the first half on a
jumper by senior guard Jane O'Donnell (Cape May Court
House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic). The hoop put O'Donnell
second all-time on the Washington College career scoring list,
surpassing Allison Wentworth '97 who netted 1,136
points. The senior now has 1,142 career points. Eboni
Taylor '97 is the school's all-time leading scorer at
1,478 points.
The Shorewomen led 16-14 with 9:27 left in the
first before going on a 16-4 run to take their biggest lead of the
game at 32-18 with 4:24 to go in the opening frame. The run began
with a layup by senior guard Jessica Jamrogowicz (Marlton,
NJ/Bishop Eustace) to put WC up 18-14 with 9:15 remaining
in the first and was capped on a three-pointer by Jamrogowicz.
During the run, Jamrogowicz scored 11 of the 16 points and assisted
on the other two makes.
Salisbury would respond with a 13-4 run to close
out the first half. Nicole Sisco netted a jumper
and drew a foul with nine seconds left. She would go to the line
and complete the traditional three-point play to cut the WC lead to
36-31 at halftime.
In the second half, the Sea Gulls would cut it to
45-44 with 11:43 left on a triple by KC Curran.
The Shorewomen would counter with a 16-6 run over the next 7:17 to
take a 61-50 lead with 4:26 left on a layup by Kile. Kile scored
eight points during the run, all on layups, and the team went
8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
Salisbury would score the next eight points to trim
the lead to 61-58 with 2:38 left on a second chance layup by
Glen Charlton. On the next possession for
Washington, freshman guard Maggie King (Kensington,
MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) drained a three to put the
Shorewomen up 64-58 with 2:16 left. The Sea Gulls would cut it to
64-60 with 1:48 left, but King hit her second three-pointer in 52
seconds with 1:24 remaining to put WC up 67-60. Salisbury would cut
it to 67-62 with 1:11 left on a Kylie Hall make,
but Washington scored the final four points of the game to provide
the final margin.
In addition to Kile for the Shorewomen, Jamrogowicz
added 18 points to tie for the game-high and handed out six
assists. King netted a career-high 12 points and had a team-best
three steals. Senior forward Julie Sherwood (Fairfield,
CT/Fairfield Warde) had 10 points and 10 rebounds to chalk
up a double-double, while sophomore guard Meghan Tait
(Oxford, PA/Oxford Area) dished out a game-best seven
assists.
For the Sea Gulls, Curran tied Jamrogowicz for the
game-high in points with 18. Hall posted a double-double with 10
points and a team-best 11 rebounds, while Sisco scored a
career-high 11 points. Chante' McKinney netted a
game-best four steals and tied Hall for tops on the squad in
assists with six.
Washington returns to action on Wednesday with a
6:00 p.m. tip versus visiting McDaniel in Centennial Conference
action.
