Box Score 2 White Nets Double-Double For WC In Both
Matches
ARLINGTON, VA – The Washington College volleyball team
dropped two matches in a non-conference volleyball tri-match at the
Verizon Sports Arena on the campus of Marymount University on
Saturday afternoon. The Shorewomen (7-13) lost to Frostburg
State, 3-0, (25-19, 25-12, 25-8) in the first match of the day and
fell to Marymount, 3-1, (25-17, 25-20, 18-25, 27-25) in the second
match.
In the nightcap against Marymount (5-13), the Saints won the
first two sets before the Shorewomen rallied to take the third
set. In the fourth set, Washington took a 23-21 lead on a
Marymount service error. However, the Saints rallied take the
set by scoring six of the final eight points. Marymount took
a 25-24 lead on a kill by Sharda Braxton.
Washington would level the set at 25-25 on a kill by freshman
outside hitter Jenny Lee (Wilmington, DE/Mount
Pleasant). Braxton would put the hosts up 26-25 on
an unassisted kill and an attack error by the guests clinched the
set and the match for the Saints.
Marymount's Braxton led all players in the match in kills
with 14, while Johanna Hummel also cracked
double-digits in kills with 10. Melissa
Warren registered a double-double with 37 assists and 13
digs. Chelsea Gates tied for tops in the
match with 18 digs, while Brianne Fitzpatrick
netted 13 digs of her own. Marymount recorded 15 aces in the
win, including four from Fitzpartick and Gates each.
Freshman setter Lauren White (Huntingtown,
MD/Huntingtown) recorded her fourth double-double in five
matches with 31 assists and 18 digs, tying for the match-high in
digs. She now has six double-doubles this season. She
also added seven kills and hit .545 in the match. Sophomore
defensive specialist Rita Rivera (Plymouth Meeting,
PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) also had a match-topping 18
digs. Sophomore libero/defensive specialist Kaitlin Rowan (Damascus, MD/Damascus) had 15 digs, while senior
Traci Daelemans (Tracys Landing, MD/Southern)
added 12 digs. Lee had 12 kills to lead WC and just missed a
double-double with nine digs. Junior outsider hitter
Alyssa Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) had
11 kills, while senior middle hitter Maria Whitman
(Galesville, MD/Southern) added 10 kills. Whitman
hit .444 in the contest.
Versus Frostburg State (18-2), the Bobcats led 23-19 in the
opening set before scoring the last two points on a kill and
service ace by Jamie Thomas respectively.
Thomas had 10 kills in the match and served up a match-high four
aces. Sarah Stephens had 16 kills to lead
all players, while Sabrina Winterling added 14
kills. Kylie Carrington handed out 26
assists to lead all players and Christine Barnes
dished out 10 helpers. Brittany McVearry had
10 digs to lead the Bobcats. Frostburg State hit .379 as a
team in the match.
White passed out 15 assists and had a match-best 11 digs for
Washington. She tallied double-doubles in both matches for
the Shorewomen this afternoon.
Washington returns to action on Wednesday for a tri-match
against host Wesley and Lancaster Bible College in Dover, DE.
The Shorewomen play Wesley at 4:00 p.m. and Lancaster Bible at 6:00
p.m.
