Box Score 2 Washington Defeats Muhlenberg for First Time
Since 1994
ALLENTOWN, PA - The Washington College volleyball
team split a tri-match at Muhlenberg College this afternoon in
Allentown, PA. The Shorewomen (9-15, 1-3 Centennial) defeated
the host Mules, 16-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-20, in a Centennial
Conference match, breaking a 15-match losing streak to Muhlenberg
in the process. In their second match, the Shorewomen fell to
Scranton, 25-21, 25-23, 25-15.
In the opening match, Muhlenberg ran off 12
unanswered points on the way to 25-16 win in the first set.
In the second set, the Shorewomen used a 5-1 run to turn a 12-12
tie into an 18-13 lead en route to a 25-19 win. Washington took a
2-1 lead in the match with a 25-20 win in the third set after using
a five-point run midway through the set to take the lead for good.
The Shorewomen closed the match out with an 8-3 run in the fourth
set.
Sophomore outside hitter Jenny Lee
(Wilmington, DE/Mount Pleasant) finished with 11 kills and
17 digs in the win for the Shorewomen, while junior outside hitter
Alyssa
Forget (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) pounded down 13
kills and sophomore libero Rita Rivera
(Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) scooped out 16
digs. Freshman setter Lauren
White (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) added 33 assists
and nine digs.
Davi Gordon tallied 11 kills and 11
digs for the Mules, while Jackie Price had eight
kills and 20 digs. Morgan Duggan added 31
assists and 15 digs, while Brooke McQueen finished
with 16 digs.
The victory was the Shorewomen's first over the Mules
since 1994.
In Washington's match against Scranton, the Royals
overcame an early 13-4 deficit to post a 25-21 win in the first
set. In the second set, Scranton scored the final three
points for a 25-23 win in a set where neither team led by more than
three points. Scranton never trailed in the third set en route to
the 25-15 win.
Jennell McFadden pounded down 14
kills against three errors in 35 attempts for Scranton.
Marissa Every had 15 digs, while Katie
Newman tallied 14 to go along with three aces.
Emily Keim totaled 29 assists and eight digs.
Lee finished with eight kills and seven digs in the
loss for the Shorewomen, while White contributed 20 assists and 15
digs.
The Shorewomen will be back in action Wednesday with
a 7:00 p.m. home match against Ursinus.
