Washington Opens Spring with Win Over
Division II Team
LEWES, DE -- The Washington College men's tennis
team opened its dual match schedule with a 9-0 win over Division II
West Chester today at the Dave Marshall Tennis Center in Lewes, DE.
The Golden Rams fell to 2-4 on the season with the loss.
Junior Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John
Carroll) and sophomore Kevin Papen (Dover,
DE/Caesar Rodney) led off doubles with an 8-2 win over
John Howanski and Michael Ensor
at No. 1. Sophomore Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St.
Petersburg) and sophomore John Menzione (Chadds
Ford, PA/Kennett) added an 8-1 win over Alan
Day and Michael Sim at No. 3, followed
quickly by an 8-5 win by junior Andrew Laux (Mt. Sinai,
NY/Mt. Sinai) and senior Timothy Parks (Geneva,
Switzerland/College du Leman) over Matt
Thomas and David Goldenberg at No. 2.
Laux and Parks won the final four games of their match at No. 2 to
rally from a 5-4 deficit.
Cranford opened singles with a 6-0, 6-0, victory
against Howanski at No. 1. Papen clinched the win for the Shoremen
with a 6-0, 6-0, victory of his own against Thomas at No. 2.
Ellison finished off Goldenberg, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3, while
sophomore Kyle Lisco (Toms River, NJ/Toms River
North) posted a 6-1, 6-1, win against Day at No. 4. Laux
was a 6-0, 6-0, winner against Sim at No. 5, while Menzione
completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0, win over Jonathan
Gordon at No. 6.
The Shoremen return to action March 8th when they
will play Dallas Baptist and Cumberland in Orlando, FL.
