McNicol Rolls to 6-1, 6-0, Win at No. 4

LEWES, DE -- In a match between the 2009 Centennial
Conference runners-up and the two-time defending Landmark
Conference Champions, the Centennial came out on top as the
Washington College women's tennis team downed Moravian College,
7-2, in non-conference action this afternoon at the Dave Marshall
Tennis Center in Lewes, DE. The Shorewomen, who are ranked ninth in
the Atlantic South region, improved to 2-0 with the win, while the
Greyhounds fell to 5-2 with the loss.
Senior Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St.
Mary's) and freshman Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck,
NY/St. George's School) scored the Shorewomen's first
point with an 8-3 win over Anna Meola and
Chelsea Ott at No. 2. Sophomore Jordan
Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore
Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep,
MD), the region's 10th-ranked doubles team, then completed
an 8-2 victory over Kerry McKinley and
Jami Fein at No. 1. Freshman Kat Cohen
(Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior
Kristine Depew (Downingtown, PA/Westtown School)
finished off Washington's sweep of doubles with an 8-3 win against
Elizabeth Endy and Brianna
Kavanagh at No. 3.
Foster opened singles with a 6-2, 6-1, victory
against McKinley at No. 3. The Greyhounds got on the board when Ott
finished off a 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-6, win over Marshall at No. 2.
Finnegan clinched the match for the Shorewomen with a 6-2, 6-7(10),
10-6, win against Fein at No. 1. Campbell then rolled past
Kavanagh, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4. Meola picked up Moravian's second
point when she blanked Depew, 8-0, at No. 5. Cohen concluded the
match with an 8-3 victory against Endy at No. 6.
The Shorewomen return to action Monday with matches
against Dallas Baptist and Cumberland in Orlando, FL.
