Dallas Baptist Downs Shorewomen, 6-2

Match Against Cumberland Not Completed

ORLANDO, FL -- Division II Dallas Baptist defeated Washington College, 6-2, in a women's tennis match this morning in Orlando, FL. Washington had a second match later in the day - against NAIA school Cumberland - but that match did not finish as the courts the match was being played on became unavailable. While there was not a winning team in the second match, the individual matches completed do count in individual statistics.

Against Dallas Baptist, sophomore Jordan Finnegan (Wilmington, DE/Archmere Academy) and sophomore Brittany Marshall (Dagsboro, DE/Worcester Prep, MD) posted an 8-6 win over Jeanelle Stines and Lisa Olian at No. 1 doubles. Natalie Holmes and Hannah Innes bested senior Kellie Foster (Lothian, MD/St. Mary's) and freshman Campbell McNicol (Mill Neck, NY/St. George's School), 8-3, at No. 2 and Laura Atkins and Lexi Yeado beat freshman Kat Cohen (Springfield, MA/Williston-Northampton School) and junior Kristine Depew (Downingtown, PA/Westtown School), 8-1, at No. 3 as the Patriots (5-0) took a 2-1 lead.

In singles, Finnegan picked up the Shorewomen's other point with a 6-3, 6-4, win at No. 1. Olian beat Foster, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2, Atkins downed McNicol, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 4, Megan Billings defeated Cohen, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5, and Yeado topped Depew, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6. No. 3 singles was not finished.

In the suspended Cumberland match, Finnegan and Marshall picked up a win at No. 1 doubles over Bea Mompo-Rebaque and Amber Johnson. The Shorewomen also picked up two other points by default. Emily Jacobs and Courtney Schaub downed McNicol and Foster, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. Mompo-Rebaque bested Finnegan, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8, at No. 1 singles, Schaub beat Foster, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 2, and Jacobs downed McNicol, 6-4, 7-5,at No. 3. Cumberland held a 4-3 lead at the time of suspension but a winner cannot be declared until one team has earned five points in the match.

Cumberland is ranked 22nd in the NAIA.

The Shorewomen (2-1) will play Bethel (TN) in Orlando tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.
