BALTIMORE, MD -- Host Johns Hopkins University,
ranked 10th in the nation and third in the Atlantic South region,
topped visiting Washington College, ranked 13th in the region, 8-0,
in a Centennial Conference men's tennis match this afternoon in
Baltimore. The Blue Jays improved to 14-4 overall and 7-0 in
conference play, while the Shoremen fell to 10-4 and 4-3.
David Maldow and Andrew
Wang, ranked third in the region in doubles, topped WC
junior Adam Cranford (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll)
and sophomore Kevin Papen (Dover, DE/Caesar
Rodney), 8-3, at No. 1. Casey Blythe and
Jacob Barnaby, ranked eighth in the region, bested
senior Timothy Parks (Geneva, Switzerland/College du
Leman) and freshman Josh Hedrick (Dover,
DE/Dover), 8-2, at No. 2, while Warren
Elgort and Ryan Rauck were 8-1 winners
over sophomore Aaron Ellison (Largo, FL/St.
Petersburg) and sophomore John Menzione (Chadds
Ford, PA/Kennett) at No. 3.
In singles, Maldow, ranked third in the region,
narrowly edged Cranford, 6-2, 4-6, 14-12, at No. 1. Wang, ranked
12th, downed Papen, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2. Elgort beat Ellison, 7-5,
6-1, at No. 3, Barnaby beat sophomore Kyle Lisco (Toms
River, NJ/Toms River North), 8-3, at No. 4, and
Peter Vale beat Hedrick, 8-3, at No. 5. Number six
singles was not played.
The Shoremen return to action Tuesday with a 3:30
p.m. Centennial Conference match at McDaniel.
